Boat/Fiberglass Technician

Location: Boise, Idaho

Job Description:

Position: Boat Technician (Fiberglass Specialization)

Employment Type: Full-time

Salary: $52,000-$74,000 DOE

Job Summary: As a Boat Technician specializing in body work, you will be responsible for repairing and refinishing the exterior surfaces of boats to restore their appearance and structural integrity. Working closely with our team, you will contribute to maintaining and enhancing our reputation for excellence in boat maintenance and repair services.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed inspections of boat exteriors to assess damage and determine repair requirements.
  • Execute repairs on fiberglass, gelcoat, metal, and other boat exterior materials using appropriate techniques and materials.
  • Conduct structural repairs to address cracks, dents, and other forms of damage to the boat hull and body.
  • Prepare surfaces for repair work by cleaning, sanding, and applying fillers or primers as needed.
  • Apply paint, gelcoat, or other finishing materials to achieve a smooth and uniform surface appearance.
  • Blend paint colors to match existing boat finishes and ensure seamless repairs.
  • Utilize specialized tools and equipment, including spray guns, sanders, and polishers, to achieve high-quality results.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols while performing repair and refinishing tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and hours worked for billing and reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate effectively with other members of the team to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines.
  • Establish a workflow and needs to be able to expand watercraft repairs to the outside community.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification required, technical or vocational training in marine repair or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in boat repair and body work, with a focus on fiberglass repair, gelcoat application, and paint refinishing.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools commonly used in marine repair, including sanders, grinders, and polishers.
  • Strong understanding of boat construction techniques, materials, and finishes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship, with the ability to produce high-quality workmanship consistently.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and colleagues.
  • Physical dexterity and stamina to perform tasks that may involve bending, lifting, and working in confined spaces.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Willingness to pursue ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
