Job Summary - Manufacturing Blending Operator

Under the direction of the Shift Leader and Production Supervisor/Manager, the Blending Operator is responsible for set up and operation of machinery to combine dry and liquid chemicals into customer products.  The Blending Operator ensures safety is their #1 priority; they produce the highest quality product at the lowest possible costs while meeting customer specifications and delivery requirements in accordance with Avient Corporation policies and procedures.

       Sets up and starts all machines, checking all controls for adherence to mixing/blending procedures.

       Complies with all safety policies and procedures.

       Demonstrates teamwork in all phases of operation.

       Weighs ingredients to meet recipe specification and inserts into machinery.

       Experienced and capable of working in both Food Grade and Industrial operations.

       Troubleshoots equipment and processing issues.

       Examines materials visually in order to ensure conformance to established standards.

       Operates machinery to mix, discharge or handle materials according to operating procedures.

       May take samples of materials to lab for evaluations and instructions.

       Refers issues/problems to lead/supervisor for disposition.

       Performs all required machine cleaning

       Completes and maintains all required computer inputs.  Responsible for data integrity.

       Documents work completed as required including logs, data reports, procedures, etc.

       Participates in training, retraining and continual improvement processes and methods.

       Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.

       Supports the vision, mission and guiding principles of the company.

       Follows all rules, laws and procedures related to HS&E, ISO and other regulations.

       Other projects/duties as assigned or needed.

Required Skill:

       Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product recipes/materials.

       Must have mathematical skill to add, subtract, multiply and divide and to apply these skills to weights, measures of volume and distance.

       Must effectively communicate in writing and verbally in English.

       Competency in computer and PC software including email, internet, and MS office.

       Must have manual dexterity for hand tools of various types.

       Must be able to drive forklift.

       Must have problem solving skills and some mechanical aptitude.

Required Education & Experience:

       US High School diploma or GED equivalency or equivalent experience

       1-3 years of industrial/manufacturing experience (in manufacturing environment- not assembly line manufacturing)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The characteristics listed below are representative of the physical demands required by an individual to successfully perform the essential duties of this position.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

       While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

       surveillance testing conducted annually

o   required to wear a half mask respirator

o   test for Lead, Candium & Chrominium(Heavy Metals)

       stand up to12hrs per shift

       use hands to finger 8 to 12hrs per shift

       ability to work in a hot environment (no climate control)

       handle and/or feel and reach with hands and arms up to 12hrs per shift

       required to walk up to 12hrs per shift

       required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and talk or hear 8 to 12hrs per shift

       occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 55 lbs

       specific vision abilities required include:

o   close vision

o   color vision

o   depth perception

o   ability to adjust focus

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:                               

       While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to:

o   moving mechanical parts

o   fumes or airborne particles

o   noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office noise levels to loud noise

       Employees are required to wear mandatory PPE(8 to 12hrs per shift)which include:

o   hearing protection when on production floor

o   respirators required up to 8hrs per shift

o   steel toe shoes/boots when on production floor

o   specific gloves when performing specific tasks

o   hard hat when on production floor
