Biopsy Coordinator - Part time position
Job Summary:
Position requires organization, good patient contact skills and an ability to work well with the biopsy technologists and radiologists.
Major Job Functions:
- Assist biopsy technologist and radiologist during procedures, print images, cleaning and set up of procedure rooms i.e. (stereotactic biopsy, ductogram and ultrasound).
- Scheduling all biopsy patients.
- Patient preparation: bring biopsy patients to changing area.
- Bring screening and diagnostic patients to changing area when needed.
- Make pre-appointment calls to the scheduled biopsy patients.
- Make follow up calls to post-biopsy patients.
- Coordinates all pre-exam paperwork: previous mammogram reports, physician’s orders, Specimen/Pathology requisitions.
- Assist radiologist and technologist during procedures if needed.
- Communicate patient history and other pertinent information to radiologist: preparation for exam and procedure, showing current diagnostic study, getting dictation done for reports.
- Knowledge of how to use the digital workstation.
- Assist radiologist during patient consultation/results.
- Schedules appointment as needed with Surgeon.
- Stocking ultrasound and biopsy room as needed.
- Maintain patient and staff safety in all areas.
- Follow all HIPAA and OSHA guidelines.
- Sign off on surgical specimens as needed.
- Call for specimen pickup as needed.
- Schedule wire localizations.
- Make biopsy (weekly) and wire localization (daily) schedules.
- Adjust wire localization times as needed for surgical centers.
- Calls provider office for outside cases that need biopsies ACR BiRads 4 & 5.
- Prepares informational packets for all positive biopsy patients.
- Prepares post biopsy instructions.
- Prepares and sends instruments and sterile drapes for autoclave.
- Draws up saline as needed.
- Informs lead technologist of needed biopsy supplies.
- Receives and unloads biopsy supplies when delivered.
Specifications:
Education: High School diploma or GED
Experience: Clerical and clinical experience preferred
