Biomedical Equipment Tech III
Position Summary:
Maintains clinical equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Plan.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates a mastery of skills and tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration and repair of complex BioMedical Equipment
- Trains and educates junior and mid-level staff and others, including clinical staff, related to the technical integration of devices/systems
- Considered a "Subject Matter Expert" on high-acuity clinical devices and systems in specialized acute care areas
- May lead and direct the work of others
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree, military training OR academic work aligned with AAMI's Core Competencies for the Biomedical Equipment Technician required
- 4 years' experience as a Biomedical Equipment Tech
- Advanced knowledge of mathematics, anatomy, physiology, biology, physics, chemistry and medical terminology
- Advanced understanding and skills related to general electromechanical systems and devices and can communicate the use of supported devices
- Knowledgeable of both local and national public safety and regulatory issues
- Must be available to meet the on-call rotation requirement of the department
Working Conditions:
- Moves about facility, with stooping, bending, reaching and lifting object over 50 pounds. Pushes heavy equipment and carts. Climbs ladders, balances, kneels, and crouches to make repairs
- Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
- Majority of shift spent on feet walking or standing 8-12 hours per day
- Typical equipment used in a clinical job
- Exposure to noise, electrical shock, mechanical hazards, fumes, burns, hazardous chemicals, and infectious wastes. Must be able to utilize all personal protective equipment
- Must be safety conscious and aware of hazards such as cleaning solutions, needles, glass, and faulty equipment to prevent injury to self, patients, visitors and staff
- Possible exposure to blood and body fluids requiring the use of personal protective equipment
