The successful candidate will be responsible for preparation and support for laboratory courses for non-majors and majors including microbiology and introductory cell and molecular biology. Duties include preparing media, making solutions, maintaining microbiology stock cultures, and preparing supplies needed for lab instruction. In addition, the Lab Manager will set up and break down lab activities, maintain organized teaching labs and prep rooms, purchase supplies, maintain equipment, and track inventory. Other duties include supervising student workers, complying with safety and waste disposal regulations, managing chemical inventory, and helping to develop and improve lab activities. Depending on experience, the Lab Manager has the potential to help integrate authentic research activities and provide support for upper-level Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) laboratory classes.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field.Two years' work experience in a science laboratory.Must be familiar with a variety of skills and techniques appropriate for introductory laboratory courses, particularly in the areas of microbiology, cell biology, and molecular biology, especially experience culturing microbes and conducting classical microbial tests.Excellent organizational skills, experience with budgets and purchasing, work well independently, and work collaboratively with faculty involved in teaching these courses.Must have excellent communication skills.
