Biology Classroom Instructor

We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic educators who are ready to dismantle the educational barriers that students and families face and open up educational opportunities through tutoring.

Tutors can make their schedules and are independent contractors with TEACH. There is no minimum hour requirement. Tutors who continue working with TEACH long-term have opportunities to become Experienced Tutors and even potential opportunities for part-time or full-time employment. Availability during school hours (9 am-12 pm; 12 pm-2:30 pm) and/or after school hours (2:30-5 pm) is highly desirable for classroom instructional opportunities.

Priority Instructor Positions for the 2023-2024 School Year
We are looking for 1 instructor with prior classroom teaching experience to join our daytime high school instructor team:

High School (11th grade) Biology Classroom Instructor

Daytime hours working with about 60 students total in person

• Teaching Biology
• 1 day a week: could be Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday (the day is up to the instructor, but would be consistently on that day of the week)
• Working with 3 cohorts of Juniors (about 20 students per cohort)
• Priority time blocks for availability: 9:00 am-3 pm
• Location: Camden, NJ. Tutors must be open to traveling on-site to this area and to other areas of the city (Philadelphia) as needed.
• Program duration: Approximately 18 weeks from the week of January 22 to June 10, 2024

Required Qualifications

• 1+ years experience teaching in a classroom setting
• A bachelor's degree from an accredited university
• Prior biology content knowledge
• Available to travel locally in the Greater Philadelphia & Camden areas for in-person lessons
• Ability to complete federal, PA, and NJ state background checks and clearances
• A zest for learning and the spark to share and build knowledge with students!

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience teaching or tutoring Biology
• Understanding of student-centered and culturally responsive learning practices

Instructor Responsibilities

• Prepare engaging lessons and materials to meet student's needs
• Connect with students from diverse backgrounds and educational experiences to maximize their academic potential and to help them achieve their goals
• Communicate with TEACH office staff and parents/guardians to coordinate tutoring lessons and check in about student progress in a punctual manner and with attention to detail
• Participate in professional development opportunities to improve tutoring practice and connect with inspiring educators from around the greater Philadelphia area
• Submit time-sensitive information using our database and other online documentation

Compensation

$100/hr for the 3 hours of solo classroom instruction plus 1.5 hours of paid prep time at $25/hr per day of instruction
