Title: Clinic Financial Services Representative Billing Clerk
Reporting Relationship: Clinic Billing Coordinator/Chief Executive Officer
General Summary of Responsibilities: Performs a wide variety of external and internal customer service support, billing, collection, clerical, and insurance filing/verification duties in support of patients receiving care in the Box Butte General Hospital owned clinic.. Responsible for extraordinary customer service to patients, family members and related departments in the BBGH facility. Duties include provision of patient information, collection of payments, explanations of hospital policies and financial obligations, resolution of insurance questions, and resolution of claims. May act as receptionists for clients or guests and operate switchboards and paging systems. May provide clerical support service and mail operations.
Essential Job Functions:
  1. Promptly files patient claims with second and third party payers and assists in follow-up in an efficient manner to ensure maximum reimbursement is received for services provided. Remains up-to-date on insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, Work Comp and motor vehicle claims regulations for billing purposes and follow-up on claims. Assists patients in understanding billing procedures and obtaining full benefits from their coverage.
  2. Processes payments from Medicare, Medicaid and other third-party payers. Coordinates with payers to ensure timely recovery of outstanding accounts. Updates the computer system to reflect payments. Performs all associated financial and claim duties in order to ensure completeness and correctness of all claim information facilitating maximum reimbursement.
  3. Provides varied clerical and administrative support services to co-workers to assist in all parts of the patient financial services and registration operations of the hospital and clinic.
  4. Works closely with outsourcing company regarding patient accounts.
    1. Make notes in patient accounts regarding payment schedules, etc.
    2. Researches accounts on computer program.
    3. Downloads information from computer system to outsourcing computer system regarding payment journals and new accounts rolled over to self-pay.
  5. Protects Private Health Information and BBGH business information by observing confidentiality in all matters.
  6. Multi-tasks and works in an environment where multiple interruptions occur throughout the day.

6. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Job Qualifications:
Education:
Required: High School graduate or equivalent
Preferred: One or more years of college coursework in business administration, insurance operations and/or medical coding.

- Excellent computer skills including use of Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word and Excel.
- Ability to follow complex regulations and instructions.
- Ability to learn and cross-train in a variety of positions.
- Support and commit to hospital wide initiatives to support the BBGH Values, Vision, and Mission Statements.
