POSITION TITLE: Bilingual Training SpecialistSTATUS: Non-Exempt, FT Grade: 4
DEPT: Early Childhood Services PROGRAM: Westside Provider Services
Reports To: Provider Services Coordinator SUPERVISES: NA
SUMMARY: In collaboration with the Provider Services Coordinator, the Bilingual Training Specialist is responsible for training, technical assistance and capacity building for childcare providers working in all settings, licensed and license-exempt. The emphasis is on improving and maintaining quality childcare environments for children from 6 weeks-12 years of age. Providers currently being served speak English, Spanish and Polish.
COLLABORATES WITH: YWCA Metropolitan Chicago Early Childhood Services Staff, Talent, Performance and Leadership Staff, Coordinator of Provider Services and YWCA clients, volunteers, and program consultants on and off site
ESSENTIAL Responsibilities & DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Training Facilitation: Assists Program Coordinator in planning, coordinating and facilitating training services for new and existing childcare providers working in both home and center-based settings. Provides on-site program visits when requested.
Provider Recruitment: Assists in the recruitment and identification of new childcare providers, including but not limited to preparation of a program training calendar, developing marketing tools, and networking with community agencies and other service providers to build program participation. Assists with developing a pool of trainers and consultants. Trains and directs work of trainers hired.
Provider Assistance: Provides on going technical assistance to childcare providers, including but limited to how to start a childcare business, state requirements as provided by DCFS, professional development opportunities, establishing and maintaining quality environments, understanding of current best practices in early care and education, including accessing grant opportunities when applicable and available.
Reporting & Administration: Gathers statistics, develops reports, and provides documentation to assist in the evaluation of program effectiveness and to comply with funding contract. Assists with operation of on-site resource room, including but not limited to distribution of materials, collection of fees, copying and laminating services, and the organization and reading of self studies.
Professional Development: Participates in advocacy and outreach efforts to improve the quality and availability of childcare through both legislative and professional networking opportunities. Keeps abreast of early care and education best practices through attendance at seminars and conferences. Attends related training assistant meetings and those required of all YWCA staff.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with volunteers and childcare Mentors. Involvement with other YWCA programs currently housed at the program's facility. Attend program related special events when time and funding allow.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: There may be occasions when additional projects, roles, and duties are necessary to implement program goals and responsibilities of the YWCA or the funding agency.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bi-Lingual Spanish/English. 2 years child development experience. Experience working in a family childcare home or child development/educational center setting. Early care and education training experience, including the ability to conduct training in both small and large group settings. Competence in Microsoft applications and Outlook, Excel, and internet skills. Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills.
QUALIFICATIONS continued:
Effective written and verbal communication skills. Able to manage concurrent projects and to work with minimum supervision. Ability to work evenings and Saturdays and to travel. Must have a car and valid driver's license.
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Sixty semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university with 18 semester hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development or two years of child development experience in a licensed child care center or home and 30 semester hours of college credit with 10 semester hours in courses related to child care and/or child development and proof of enrollment to complete 2 years of college credit or completion of an approved child care credentialing program with 12 semester hours in courses related to child care and/or child development.
CERTIFICATION(s) REQUIRED:
WORK ENVIRONMENT & SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
The work environment includes offices, and sites where children and adults are present. The noise level is usually moderate. There may be occasion to lift or to hold a child, who may weigh up to forty pounds. Movement requirements include walking, running, stooping or kneeling. There may be a need to reach or to lift objects, or child(ren). The individual must be able to carry and transportmaterials necessary to host and conduct training. Communication needs include seeing, hearing and speaking. While in the office, there may be periods of sitting. Reasonable accommodations will be made for an incumbent to meet the essentials responsibilities of the position.
