Village Elementary SchoolThis position works when school is in session, 8 hours daily (4 as instructional aide and 4 as an office aide). Base hourly rate is $15.85 plus additional pay awarded based on past work experience. Preference will be given to those who are bilingual in English and Spanish.
Purpose: The Office Aide provides clerical support to assist with the efficient operation of the school. To accomplish these tasks, the Office Aide works closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.
Responsible to: Principal
Payment rate: As established by the Emporia Board of Education
Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Functions:
  1. Provide office and clerical support to assist with the efficient operation of the school.
  2. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
  3. Appropriately operate equipment as required.
  4. Type and copy materials for staff and administration.
  5. Answer telephones and deliver messages.
  6. Distribute mail.
  7. Distribute passes, notes to parents, etc. as directed.
  8. Perform general clerical tasks.
  9. Assume responsibility for care and minor maintenance of copy machines and/or other equipment.
  10. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  3. Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
  4. Occasionally requires balancing.
  5. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  6. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.

General Responsibilities:
  1. Support and facilitate the mission and vision of the Emporia Public Schools.
  2. Maintain documentation relative to program requirements.
  3. Prepare and file required reports
  4. Stay abreast of new technologies to facilitate and support data management and communication.
  5. Be prepared to implement the Building Crisis Plan; actively participate in response drills.
  6. Uphold / enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
    • Acceptable use of technology
    • Sexual and racial harassment
    • Child abuse reporting
    • Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  7. Interact with students, parents, and staff in a professional manner demonstrating tolerance of individual differences, patience, and sensitivity.
  8. Demonstrate professionalism through appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance; accurate recordkeeping and timely submission of required reports.
  9. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
  10. Assist in ensuring high standards of health and safety and maintain safe and well-organized a work space.
  11. Respond to change in a productive manner.
  12. Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
  13. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood Services or Building Principal.

Purpose: The Highly Qualified Teacher Aide assists in the operation of instructional or supportive services in the school system. To accomplish these tasks, the Highly Qualified Teacher Aide works closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.

7. Support the vision and mission of USD 253.

  5. Attend staffings and general staff meetings as required.
  6. Assist grading papers.
  7. Maintain necessary records.
  8. Perform general clerical tasks.
  9. Set up displays and equipment.
  10. Assist in the maintenance and inventory of materials.
  11. Work effectively with students, teachers, parents, community agencies and other groups.
  12. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
  13. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  14. Stay abreast of new technologies, data management and communication.
  15. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law.
