Job Summary:
The primary responsibility is to efficiently and effectively maintain and direct all Regulatory, Environmental Health, Safety & Security requirements of the Federal, State, and Local agencies and laws as it pertains to the DOL (OSHA, OWCP), EPA, GDA (Food Safety Division), OMF Code of Conduct (Sustainability) and Food Defense (Bioterrorism Act of 2002).
Safety Specialist have primary responsibility for EHSS:
- Compliance.
- Implementation.
- Provide overall strategic direction & support (including financial & human resources)
- The professional expertise to identify EHSS best practices for implementation of the Plan on a company wide basis that meet OMF’s EHSS goals and objectives.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain strict adherence and compliance with all Regulatory Laws as they pertain to Corporate and/or Food Safety Industry Operations requirements pertaining to GFSI, Plant Policies and all other legal or legislative established rules and work regulations that apply.
- Critically review the EHSS facility-wide plan, policies, programs and other initiatives and get its approval from Director of Safety.
- Exercise continuous leadership to the Safety coordinator & staff, focus plant efforts on Food Security.
- Plans and direct security activities in alignment with production schedules and related cost factors.
- Approve the necessary human and financial resources to administer the Plan.
- Ensure that appropriate procedures and activities are in place to achieve and maintain compliance.
- Assist Corporate Director of Safety in the recruiting and training of Safety Coordinators.
- Cooperate with the Safety Coordinator on audits, inspections, trainings, committee meetings, etc.
- Ensure that employees are trained in appropriate EHSS procedures.
- Sustain interest and communications in EHSS concerns throughout the facility.
- Provide appropriate incentives to supervisors and employees to perform in accordance with EHSS laws and regulations, the Business Conduct Guidelines and other standards, including recognition of exemplary performance and consistent enforcement through appropriate disciplinary mechanisms.
- Report all agency interactions, NOV’s, violations to the Corporate Safety Director
- Revise, complete (if needed) and file all necessary documentation and/or reports, in accordance with applicable reporting and record keeping requirements.?
- Provide training on EHSS related topics to employees and contractors (as required)?
- Update the training matrix data, notice of safety violation, accident investigation.?
- Address emergencies, seek input on workplace changes and make improvements.?
- Assist EHSS Manager on preparing and maintaining accuracy on the records to be submitted annually to all agencies like the EPA’s SARA TIER II Report, OSHA 300, BLR report, etc.?
- Consistent and punctual attendance each scheduled workday. Arrives at work fit for duty and sustains fitness throughout the day.
- Maintain accurate records and submit the Environmental Annual Operating Report and SARA Title II Report.
- Perform and record, routine workplace safety walk-through, looking for compliance on HAZCOM, FAK, EWS, Fire Protection, EEL, WWS, LO/TO, EAP, etc. per OSHA requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and submit the OSHA & BLR Annual Reports.
- Resolves Regulatory and Food Security issues through problem solving.
- Administer and participate in developing, implementing and maintaining all EHSS programs as outlined by OSHA, EPA, etc.
- Participate in incident investigations with department managers and supervisors; identify and help implement processes and corrective measures to prevent any reoccurrence.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
