Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Responsible for overall coordination of Restorative Justice Programs for DRC. Works closely with the Director of Operations to build and maintain relationships with the Office of Juvenile Court in Skagit County and the Skagit County School District. Collaborate with Whatcom, Thurston, and Kitsap DRCs to develop training and ensure successful delivery of services.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Receive referrals from Probation Officers, Teen Court, and Community partners to attend RJ services.
  • Prepare all materials for the monthly Victim-Offender Impact Competency Education (VOICE) class including coordination with facilitators and youth attendees.
  • Attend and facilitate the successful delivery of the VOICE class.
  • Read, assess, and record homework from youth attending VOICE. Make follow-up contact with any youth who does not turn homework in on time. Report homework outcomes to Probation Officer, Teen Court, and/or community partners.
  • Meet with students and perform Restorative Alternative Meetings (RAM) for students lacking the ability to demonstrate an adequate understanding of VOICE class.
  • Receive Victim-Offender Meeting (VOM) referrals and assign VOM facilitators.
  • Maintain accurate records to reflect all activities related to restorative justice including class attendance, outcomes, outreach, and VOM case notes, and complete quarterly reports.
  • Perform intake for families seeking parent-teen mediation services.
  • Meet with schools, community agencies, and key partners to maintain awareness, support, and referrals to the program.
  • Attend community meetings to promote restorative justice and mediation programming while building and maintaining strong community partnerships, including but not limited to monthly Law & Justice Council meetings, Sedro Woolley Rise coalition, and Skagit County Truancy Boards.
  • Support the development and implementation of the Skagit County Juvenile Justice program.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and training of youth conflict resolution/ communication training.
  • Serve as a lead mediator for the Monroe Small Claims Court mediation program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA or equivalent work experience required.
  • Understanding of Alternative Dispute Resolution/Mediation Services.
  • Trained and Certified Mediator is desired.
  • Belief in Restorative Justice Principles and desire to develop both service areas for DRC.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work enthusiastically and cooperatively with staff and community.
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently on complex tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience training or teaching preferred.
  • Experience with the network computer system.
