Description:
GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
Works under the general supervision of the Medical Director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education.
This position will provide excellent work life balance. You will enjoy weekends and four days off of work each week while working 7a-7p, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday!
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Permit to perform polysomnography related respiratory care or license to practice respiratory care from the Idaho Board of Medicine required. Must be registered as a Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT). At hire, Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required. (ACLS and/or PALS may be accepted in lieu of BLS)
Other certifications may be required as identified in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk
Five years of direct clinical experience in the sleep medicine field required. Experience in teaching/training preferred. Audio-visual experience preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Follows procedural protocols (e.g., Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration) to ensure collection of appropriate data. Follows "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline value (e.g., body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates).
Performs polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identifies and reports signal abnormalities and make adjustments, if necessary. Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. Implements appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.)
Follows "lights on" procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g., repeats the physiological and instrument calibrations and instruct the patient on completing questionnaires). Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions. Scores sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines. Basic computer skills. Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated appropriate social skills.
