Preschool Teacher Assistant
The Awty International School has a long-term substitute position for a Preschool Teacher Assistant for Maternity Leave.

Position:
- Bilingual Preschool Teacher (Long Term Substitute) – SPANISH Preschool Teacher Assistant in PK3.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Training, degrees, and college coursework in early childhood education are a plus.
- Previous work experience with preschool-age children
- Native speaker proficiency in Spanish
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to work collaboratively within the School
- International and independent school experience preferred
The Role:
A Teacher Assistant at the Awty International School is expected, but not limited to, the following expectations. Applicants should:
- work in collaboration with teachers and assistants as a contributing team member
- support a cooperative and positive environment for students
- demonstrate understanding of and commitment to childhood social, emotional, and intellectual development within an international school setting
- actively supervise students in class as well as during outdoor activities
- help provide an organized, clean, safe environment where learning is a priority
- encourage children to communicate respectfully, develop their self-help skills, while respecting their natural abilities, interests and enthusiasm for learning
- uphold and reinforce appropriate behavior with students, modeling positive behavior
- maintain confidentiality in regards to Awty students, parents, colleagues
- attend staff meetings and school events throughout the school year as needed
- take on other appropriate duties, such as lunch provision, carpool and bus duty, to name a few, as requested by administration
- adhere to the School’s professional guidelines
Job Duties:
The job duties listed below are not meant to be exhaustive; additional, related duties may be assigned by the Head of the ELC as needed.
1) Before class:
- Check the classroom, setting up chairs at tables, etc., in preparation to receive the children.
- Consult with the teacher on a projected routine for the day or any special activities planned to determine which lessons will need your support.
- Assist the teacher in the preparation and set up of activities/worksheets for the day’s lessons.
- Carpool, student reception duties as rotationally assigned. Load or Unload the students.
2) During class:
- Assist children who require individual lesson support, as delegated by the teacher.
- Assist students with hygiene needs as needed, encouraging and promoting self-management and independence.
- Lunchroom duties
3) After class:
- Tidy the classroom and prepare for the next day’s activities, as directed.
- Attend ELC duties after class, on an assigned rotational basis.
4) On-going:
- Confer with the teacher to:
- exchange ideas about alternate ways to cope with challenging behaviors;
- review the day’s/week’s activities, concerns and student observations;
- provide feedback on observations of/ interactions with students during assistant’s recess/lunch/nap supervision.
- Participate in weekly housekeeping duties on an assigned rotational basis, including lamination, lost and found, closet/workroom maintenance, etc.
Physical Requirements:
- Safely lift a child or children with total weight of 50 pounds
- Conduct activities involving substantial standing, walking and moderate sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, twisting, and reaching on a frequent basis.
- Must be able to stoop, bend and kneel on the floor without assistance.
