OB Medical Assistant

Starting Hourly Rate: $ 21.59 hourly
Position Description:
This role is entrusted with providing obstetric medical assistance to patients in the field of obstetrics under the guidance of a healthcare provider.
Position Responsibilities:
- Uphold client and employee confidentiality, adhering to the agency's compliance program and privacy policy.
- Conduct patient OB intakes, documenting obstetric histories and physical conditions.
- Measure patient vital signs including pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and respiration.
- Provide routine care, review, and upkeep of medical records.
- Collaborate closely with obstetricians and registered nurses. Communicate effectively with patients and their families.
- Perform phlebotomy, administer injections, assist with EKGs, Point of Care testing, and OB exams. Prepare specimens for laboratory courier.
- Deliver patient health education, medication oversight, and provider referrals.Facilitate patient navigation of the healthcare system: appointment scheduling, pharmacy coordination, link with other providers.
- Medical assistant and administrative tasks as needed.
- Ensure exam and treatment rooms are clean and prepared for use. Manage and stock OB clinical supplies and equipment.
- Manage phone inquiries.
- Adhere to the agency's policy regarding infection control measures.
Additional Duties:
- Ability to work under pressure with a diverse population, including staff, volunteers, clients, patients and other members of the public on a regular basis.
- Cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with staff and volunteers.
- The position may cause frequent exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and other conditions common to a clinical environment
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, spoken and written.
- Competence in conducting vitals, point of care testing and operating other medical equipment
- Ability to educated patients of their medical diagnosis, address patients' questions.
- Proficiency to maintain medical records and record test results.
- Knowledge of medical practices, equipment, and procedures.
- Dedication to the mission and objectives of the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington.
- Computer literacy:ability to learn and use program specific software.
- Uphold clinical quality assurance standards.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma and job experience in a clinical setting
- Prior experience in obstetrics is beneficial.
- BLS certification/CPR certification
Physical Demands:
- Maintain current BLS/CPR certification
- Capable of effectively handling high-pressure situations while interacting with a diverse group, including staff, volunteers, clients, patients, and the general public on a consistent basis.
- Be prepared for potential exposure to communicable diseases and other typical clinical conditions.
