Job Title: Human Resources Manager

FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt

Summary: Conducts Human Resources activities for the Illinois facilities by performing the following duties:

  • Consistently role models company values and fosters a team environment.
  • Demonstrates sound judgement (ability to see the implications of various actions and view things from multiple global perspectives).
  • Initiates Human Resources activity that satisfies legal requirements, improves employee morale and keeps upper Management informed as needed.
  • Conducts walks in plant to observe employees and assist in implementing safety policies and GMPs.
  • Processes weekly payroll for all salaried employees.
  • Oversees payroll processing for all Hourly employees.
  • Updates HRMS and personnel files with changes to employee status as necessary (e.g., change of address, tax withholding (W-4s), departmental transfers, rate increases, terminations, etc.) and updates the HRMS with vacation payout requests.
  • Handle disciplinary actions for employees who have violated company policies.
  • Updates HRMS with discipline issued to employees.
  • In cases of complaints and allegations, gathers necessary information through investigations, makes decisions that will impact employees' employment based on company policies and documents matter.
  • Assists with the recruitment and selection of employees to fill all vacant positions.
  • Works with all department to determine hiring needs and strategize to determine best sources to use in recruiting candidates.
  • Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals. Ensures the orientation process is conducted correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Keeps records of benefits plans participation such as insurance and pension plan, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting. Hard copy files and computer files should be maintained in a very organized manner.
  • Primary liaison to our temporary agencies to make changes to staffing levels and ensure proper enforcement of consistent policies.
  • Assists in the management of staffing agencies to achieve common goals and adherence to company rules/policies as well as company values.
  • Responds to employee relations' issues. Works with employees, Supervisors and Management to resolve issues. Acts as lead contact for all employee relations' issues, involving upper Management when appropriate. Prepares appropriate documentation concerning issues.
  • Advises Management of appropriate resolution of employee relations' issues. Initiates updates routinely on employee relations' issues.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Manages the administration of FMLA and ADA leaves of absence and assists in determining applicable eligibility and communicates leave information, disability accommodations, and time off plans under the guidance of the HR Director.
  • Provides advice and support relative to employment law issues (ADAAA, FLSA, FMLA, HIPPA, State & Federal Pregnancy Leave Laws, Title VII and USERRA). Interprets and researches employment law and HR best practices to ensure advice and guidance to staff is both accurate and up to date.
  • Prepares ongoing communication (i.e. postings, handouts, flyers) for employees on an as-needed basis, including announcements regarding policies and procedures, pay, company news, employee benefits, changes in operations, holiday announcements, etc.
  • Develops a plan for employee communications that need to happen on a consistent, routine basis (i.e., holiday, anniversary). Reacts to current situations by preparing necessary postings. Translates postings and works with translators to translate postings.
  • Prepares reports and recommends procedures to improve efficiencies within the company and department. As needed.
  • Works efficiently and effectively with outside vendors including Dayforce (formerly (for Time and Attendance System), temp agencies, caterers, vending machine vendor, etc.
  • Administers benefits programs such as life, health, dental, vision and disability insurances, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance. Works with HR Coordinator and HR Generalist to ensure enrollments and terminations from plan are handled in a timely manner.
  • Regularly interacts with Production Manager, QC Manager, to determine and to strategize best sources to use in recruiting candidates, as well as discuss current issues; initiates updates routinely on employee relations' issues with Production Supervisors.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation.
  • Supervises HR Generalist and HR Coordinator.
  • Provides guidance and feedback to HR Generalist and HR Coordinator on performance related issues and works with individuals to make the HR function more efficient.
  • Collaborates efforts to gather information for special projects, both individual and team focused.
  • Assists with planning of employee events.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations. Prepares documentation at the time of incident. Conducts exit interviews prior to last day, if possible or within a week of termination.
  • Completes first aid training to become a company first-aid responder.
  • Prepares reports and recommends procedures to reduce absenteeism and turnover, as needed.
  • Translate from English to Spanish for employee meetings, postings and documents.
  • Performs other duties, as required.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources from four-year College or University; At least three years of related Human Resources experience. Manufacturing experience required. Prior supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws required.


Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, legal documents and policies. Ability to accurately write and translate policies, routine reports and well-written correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization, answer questions tactfully and diffuse difficult situations. Bilingual English/Spanish required.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have familiarity of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS); Microsoft Office Word Processing and Excel software; Internet software.

Must have excellent customer service skills and communication skills.
