Title: Bilingual Curriculum Specialist
Salary Schedule Range: 43
Hours per day: 7
Months per year: 9
Purpose of Position: To assist in the instruction and classroom supervision of students who are primarily English language learners in all core curriculum and elective programs.
Reporting: Reports to an assigned supervisor, usually the site principal.
Employment Status: Full-time (FLSA Non-exempt)
Location: Santa Barbara Junior High
Essential Functions:
Provide specific support services to students individually or in small groups in reading, literacy, math or other core content area.
Assist certificated teacher with supervision of students in structured and unstructured settings.
Use or modify a variety of instructional materials for use with individuals or small groups.
Assist certificated teacher in improving literacy standards through the use of a variety of instructional strategies.
Provide and implement problem-solving strategies, comprehension activities and active learning experiences.
Provide and facilitate visual and performing arts activities, including games, dance, sports, board games, puzzles and other activities.
Collaborate in the preparation of instructional materials and activities.
Encourage students to make wise choices and develop responsible behaviors.
Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.
Other Functions:
Perform related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
Inside work with no exposure to weather conditions and some outside work with exposure to weather conditions during outdoor activities.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read a variety of documents; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment; sitting for extended periods of time, bending or stooping to assist students with learning activities, kneeling, crouching and walking for extended time periods; reaching above the shoulders to retrieve or store materials.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the general academic needs and behavior of students; working knowledge of California K12 content standards.
Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with students, school staff, parents, volunteers and other adults.
Ability to use appropriate English grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or direction.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
Ability to work collaboratively with others.
Education, Training and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is deemed as qualifying; Bachelor's degree required, higher degree preferred. Practical experience working with children in a formal or informal educational setting is desired.
