Candidates for this job posting will hold a degree in education or an education-related field and bring enthusiasm for working with students, bring experience in facilitating or completing introductory level STEAM projects for the K-12 demographic and be excited about training for and implementing some or all of HOTE technology curriculum concepts.
About Makerspace
The Makerspace will offer hands-on, educational workshops to young San Diego students [grades 3 through 12 (ages 8 to 18)], with a focus on increasing accessibility and diversity within STEAM. The space will allow students to utilize virtual-reality and mixed reality headsets, 3D printers, a CNC mill, developer kits, and powerful computers. These tools will allow students to design, experiment, and create as they utilize cutting-edge equipment to explore the new frontier of STEAM!
The annual goals for the Makerspace is to launch a total of 25 courses that serve 625 students, many from underserved communities.
To help realize the vision of the Makerspace, HOTE is acting as lead consultant in the design (physical layout, technology supplies/tools, curriculum) and implementation (staff/educator sourcing, training, student instruction, post-session curriculum editing as needed).
Responsibilities and Duties
Participate in or facilitate curriculum design and implementation meetings
Makes curriculum revisions and modifications as appropriate
Set educational goals and objectives for students, including metrics of success per course
Develops, maintains, and updates a variety of reports, lists, and databases related to curriculum and programming
Serves as liaison to program leaders for Curriculum Developments and innovations..
Serves as an informational resource, responding to requests, inquiries, and questions from administrators, staff, and students/parents
Prepares various reports, statistical data, and other materials to support the Curriculum Development and maintenance functions.
Provides training to supporting instructional staff on established curriculum how to incorporate new technology into their lessons
Qualifications and Skills
Knowledge and Skills
The position requires a working knowledge of the STEAM curriculum proposed for the Makerspace, in particular 3D printers and virtual reality. Requires in-depth knowledge of STEAM Curriculum Development, maintenance, and review process and procedures. Requires a working knowledge of the guidelines and procedures used in the curriculum articulation process for high school students. Requires a working knowledge of computer-based software programs that support this level of work, including, but not limited to, Google Suite, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, and data entry onto custom databases. Requires basic skills at facilitating small group decision-making processes. Requires thorough knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Requires sufficient human relations skills to convey technical concepts to others and conduct informal presentations to small groups.
Abilities
Requires the ability to use language skills to read, analyze and interpret information on course and program descriptions, and technical procedures. Must be able to write reports, correspondence and informational materials. Must be able to speak effectively when facilitating small group processes. Must be able to describe, interpret, and prepare outlines for course content. Requires the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in order to meet schedules and timelines. Requires sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Makerspace students and staff and the ability to maintain productive and cooperative working relationships with others.
Education and Experience
The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in education/education-related field and 3 years of experience providing administrative support in K-12 education, preferably supporting an instructional area.
Additional Requirements
Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR.
Must complete background check prior to employment
Must submit a health history record and examination form prior to the first day of work.
Ability to interact with all age levels.
Prior experience in computer programming is a plus.
Ability to speak fluently in Spanish is a plus.
