Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role the Benefits Senior Manager, (Leave, Life Insurance and Disability) will be responsible for oversight, operations, and delivery of all U.S. Leave of Absence (LOA) and Paid Time Off, Life Insurance and Disability, and Compliance programs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage LOA, Life and Disability vendors to ensure delivery of accurate and timely benefits, in accordance with governing laws and company policies to eligible staff. Develop metrics to ensure vendor performance meets Amgen requirements.

  • Provide management oversight and guide direct reports to resolve escalations/errors. Guide direct reports to provide appropriate and timely Return to Work information to Amgen's Occ Health.

  • Subject matter expert on Federal, state, and local regulations to ensure compliance with mandatory leave and Disability benefits. Ensure delivery of required LOA benefits is operationally sound, administratively feasible, and coordinates with Amgen's policies.

  • Develop metrics to monitor the accurate delivery of LOA benefits, to audit and rectify any abuse of policies, if any, and to assist in refining LOA and Disability benefit provisions to best support Amgen employees

  • Support integration activities such as policy training for newly acquired staff and transition of active disability benefits, where required, to Amgen U.S. plans.

  • Stays current on federal and state employment laws as it relates to leaves.

  • Works with leave administration vendor to recommend process and technology improvements, draft communications.

  • Coordinates with Benefits leadership, Staff Relations and Legal for leaves and/or leaves ending termination that result in litigation.

  • Manages other activities as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of benefits, finance or vendor management experience

Or

Master’s degree and 4 years of benefits, finance or vendor management experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of benefits, finance or vendor management experience

Or

Associate’s degree and 10 years of benefits, finance or vendor management experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of benefits, finance or vendor management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with large employer benefit plans with participants in multiple U.S. states.

  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills – investigate and understand the underlying cause of an issue as opposed to fixing the matter at-hand.

  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state laws affecting benefit programs and the associated regulatory filing and compliance requirements, including federal, Internal Revenue Service, COBRA, Family Medical Leave, and privacy laws.

  • Ability to handle confidential employee information with discretion and sound judgment.

  • Proactive, collaborative team member with excellent attention to detail and a strong sense of urgency and follow-through.

  • Excellent communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and on teams.
