Form of workThe Research Scientist III (RS III) will plan, organize, and direct social/behavioral scientific research studies of highly developed scientific scope for the Tribal, Pharmacy, and Dental Data Unit (TPDDU). This will require ongoing scientific research and data analysis related to Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) programs in accordance with DHCS' specifications and requirements. Specifically, the incumbent will apply social/behavioral statistical survey techniques, theoretical models, and research methods to plan, organize, and direct scientific research studies of a highly developed scientific scope and complexity in support of Dental, Tribal, Eligibility, Pharmacy, California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal Initiative (CalAIM) Waiver Evaluations, CMS specific metrics, and Special Terms and Conditions (STC) requirements (1115 and 1015b) to help meet the statewide goals of improving care integration and person-centered care and reducing disparities under CalAIM. The position will act as a resource/team lead to management and research staff for complex advanced scientific statistical research and analysis and data linkage based on the Department initiatives for Medi-Cal data. The Tribal, Pharmacy, and Dental Data Unit uses complex advanced research, statistical analysis, and data linkage to provide information to make decisions that improve health and quality of care for Medi-Cal members.

Training and Development (T&D) assignments may be considered for this position for current California civil service employees. T&D assignments cannot exceed 24 months. However, successful T&D candidates may transition to a permanent appointment, if eligible at the end of the T&D assignment.

Working Conditions
The Program Data Reporting Division (PDRD) is located in midtown Sacramento, close to many fine shops, fine dining, the Sacramento Convention Center, and the Golden One Center. We offer flexible work schedules, including telework, and opportunities for advancement while working on cutting edge projects regarding information and data gathering, analysis, management, and dissemination. PDRD will consider qualified applicants throughout the State who are interested in this position.
This position is eligible for hybrid work schedule.
In Office - refers to all working days.
Hybrid - refers to some working days in office and other days telework.
Telework - refers to all working days at approved alternate work location.
Telework is based on operational needs for employees who can perform their essential functions remotely and/or whose duties are conducive to teleworking per DHCS' Telework Policy and in accordance with Government Code Sections 14200 - 14203 for employees residing in California.
Should the incumbent need to report to an office, they will need to report to DHCS office location: 1700 K Street, Sacramento, CA.
