The position will include supporting the hotel engineering department by giving direction to Chief Engineers and Maintenance team members. Also, this position will be charged with traveling to hotels that do not have a current Chief Engineer and stepping fully into that role until a new Chief Engineer has been hired. Plays a key role in overseeing, coordinating and assisting the activities of the maintenance staff. Ensures repair, maintenance and engineering activities and the preventative maintenance program are completed as directed and supports or monitors capital repair and renovation projects. The ability to travel and stay at a property for a period of weeks or months is a requirement for this position. Secondarily, this position will be responsible for the successful training of key property-level maintenance personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively and professionally communicates with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Follows company policies and procedures and ensures adherence is achieved by field maintenance staff members.
  • Provides a professional image at all times through appearance and dress.
  • Conducts or arranges for training of co-workers regarding safety, security, department procedures, repair and maintenance techniques, operational procedures and service guidelines.
  • Examines, analyzes and evaluates the maintenance of assigned properties to ensure adherence to IMM and franchise standards and policies.
  • Supervises and assists engineering staff in maintaining and repairing fire and life safety systems, room equipment, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems, kitchen appliances, refrigeration equipment, pool equipment, lighting, laundry equipment and other systems/equipment as directed.
  • Understanding each individual hotel brands standards, upholding these standards, and training associates to follow each hotel’s standards.
  • Protects the hotel and its assets through enforcing and maintaining a preventative maintenance program.
  • Performs skilled repair and maintenance operations using power tools, hand tools, welding equipment, etc.
  • Assist the maintenance department when staffing levels are not met to better assist the guests and protect the hotel.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of goals, policies procedures, and priorities relating to the area(s) of responsibility.
  • Ensures preventative maintenance of guest rooms is carried out in a timely and organized manner according to procedures and standards.
  • Meets with vendors and suppliers to discuss scope of, and products and materials used in, repair activities.
  • Obtains pricing and bids, or develops cost estimates as directed.
  • Ensures all associates comply with safety policies, and report injuries in a timely manner.
  • Immediately inform management/maintenance of items needing repair or not working properly.
  • Participate in regular conference calls with Corporate Management
  • Ensure hotels are operated safely, efficiently and in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct Peer Review or other site visits at hotels in area of responsibility.
  • Generate written reports and recommendations.
  • Note: Other duties as assigned by supervisor or Corporate management.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Five years technical maintenance training or experience preferred.
  • Two years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets and capital expenditures preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences, such as effectively communicating with supervisors, coworkers, public etc.
  • Possess extensive working knowledge of building systems to include but not limited to; HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, drywall and Pool systems.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of all types of mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, water softeners, and refrigeration equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate appropriately with hotel staff and Corporate staff.
  • Specialization in technical crafts (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) is required. An ability to advance knowledge in these areas, and to mentor others, is essential.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prompt and regular attendance
  • Current and valid driver’s license
  • Professional attitude and appearance, representing InterMountain Management at all times while on property
  • Adhere to IMM policies and procedures and the Employee Handbook
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • On-call status required when away from work
  • Travel 75% of the time
  • Immediately respond to and/or report any suspicious activities, threats, robberies, injuries, etc. by guests, associates or others to the proper authorities as appropriate and to IMM.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Lead by example.
  • Participate in self-development to include participation in IMM sponsored seminars and training programs, independent on-site training activities and non-company activities (reading, participation in civic and professional associations, courses, or seminars).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Travel is required approximately 75% of the time.
  • The major responsibility in this position is providing direction to hotel engineering staff members by advising them how to accomplish the maintenance and engineering functions of the hotel in accordance with InterMountain Management policies and procedures. This person must understand the practices, techniques and technologies required in the work they are performing or monitoring.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to smell.
  • Requires lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and frequently lifting and/or moving up to 50+ pounds.
  • Reading and writing abilities are utilized in order to document or record all tasks delegated and completed, to order supplies or to read and understand equipment manuals and plans.
  • Higher level reasoning abilities are always utilized.
  • Competency in mathematics is required.
