Behavioral Intervention Specialist

The Bridge Family Center is currently searching for a full time Behavioral Intervention Specialist to provide guidance and support to both staff and youth in STAR home residences. The Behavioral Specialist ensures maintenance of a healthy, therapeutic milieu and sound, trauma-informed care. This person will work with Youth Workers to create and maintain a healthy, safe, and trauma-informed culture by enforcing program expectations. This position will involve effective use of the Bridge’s residential behavior management strategy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Monitors milieu behaviors and role models building positive therapeutic relationships.
• Works with youth to develop and maintain positive coping skills.
• Acts as point person for crisis management, as necessary, while on shift. Serves as liaison between program management, EMS, DCF, and law enforcement.
• Ensures shift is following program requirements and expectations.
• Thoroughly documents behavior data using appropriate logs, critical incident reports and other documentations. Submits all documents in a clear, concise, and timely manner.
• Demonstrates ability to work with Program Manager and Clinician and takes an active role in carrying out treatment plan objectives.
• Provide regular shift reports, both written and verbal, to Program Management.
• Works in collaboration with the Program Manager to plan and implement recreational activities.
• Directs Youth Workers, as necessary, in their interactions with residents.
• Supports program policies and procedures and redirects staff to be in line with program expectations.
• Teaches and trains direct care staff through role modeling to effectively provide therapeutic interactions.
• Performs all other duties as assigned

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field strongly preferred. 2-4 years’ experience working with at-risk adolescents, particularly with significant emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric needs. Experience working with adolescents in a residential setting strongly preferred. Must have ability to set and enforce professional boundaries and limits as well as develop positive rapport with residents and staff. Must also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well with co-workers and internalize supervision. Must also have a valid Connecticut driver’s license, and possess the following certifications, or be eligible to obtain these after hire: Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Adult First Aid/CPR, and DCF Medication Administration certification. Cultural sensitivity and competency required. Bilingual skills preferred.
