The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents is looking for full time Behavioral Health Specialist.

Who we are:
Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA) is the only facility providing mental health care to children and adolescents in Virginia under the Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services umbrella. The Center offers a modern, safe environment with four 12-bed living units and adequate education and recreational space on a single-story floor plan.
The Center is affiliated with the University of Virginia Department of Psychiatric Medicine. It provides a training ground for professionals from other colleges and universities in nursing, social work, psychology, and activities therapy.

CCCA is 48-bed public psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents located in beautiful Staunton, Virginia. We serve an array of vulnerable patient populations with severe mental illness. We are a Joint Commission accredited facility.

Responsibilities

  • Behavioral Health Specialist / Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will conduct functional behavior assessments and other identified assessments to aid in the development of behavior support plan. The BCBA will work closely with Registered Behavior Technician, Behavior Coaches to implement and teach direct care staff to implement behavior observation systems and behavior support plans.
  • The BCBA will works collaboratively with all service areas to implement all aspects of behavioral programming for identified students.
  • The BCBA consults with direct care staff and supervisory staff to ensure that daily activity schedules and behavior programs are adequate to meet needs of students.
  • The BCBA develops and implements systems for conducting reliability on behavioral programs to ensure program effectiveness.
  • The BCBA monitors and ensures compliance with internal, state, federal, requirements as well as policies and procedures.
  • The BCBA prepares reports and assists in the development of policies, plans, goals, and priorities; advises on trends, issues, developments, and future direction of behavioral programming.
  • The BCBA presents a positive and professional image to all internal and external clients.
  • Oversees and monitors the delivery of clinical services for individuals with ID/DD.
  • Monitors Patient Outcomes and provides recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintains and analyzes data on the use of state hospitalization for individuals with ID/DD, patient outcomes, and quality measures in an effort to improve services, reduce lengths of stay, and prevent readmissions.
  • Conducts data analysis of patient outcome trends.
  • Supports the development of action plans to improve and ensure quality care that meets standards and regulations.
  • Serves as subject matter expert for facility leadership, clinical and programmatic departments regarding ID/DD service provision.
  • Informs facility training curriculums related to ID/DD, spectrum, and neurocognitive disorders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of psychiatric/psychological clinical theory, principle, and practice for individuals with ID/DD.
  • Communication skills that result in clear, concise, and accurate verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Management skills and ability to lead, direct, and coordinate related Facility Services initiatives in order to maximize effectiveness and efficiency of Virginia state hospitals.
  • Experience with training and evaluating providers in the provision of services and supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience with developing and implementing treatment plans, evaluating the process, and providing feedback and recommendations for improvements.
  • Knowledgeable of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodologies.
  • Master’s degree in psychology, Special Education, or related field.
  • Experience with Functional Behavior Assessments and writing Behavior Support Plans.
  • Board Certified as a Behavior Analyst.
  • Training and experience in Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Must be able to collect, organize and present data/information clearly; utilize effective communication skills; train and direct staff; display strong clinical skills; and have a working knowledge of licensing/accrediting agency standards.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, delegate, coordinate, and provide all needed follow-up. Must have experience training employees, planning, assigning and directing work.
