Job Details

Position: Registered Behavior Technician

Job Location: Peoria Service Center, 507 E. Armstrong Ave, Peoria, IL

Position Type: Full Time

Position Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm

Description

Our ABA department is growing, and we would love to have you join us! We are a clinic-based pediatric facility that provides high-quality ABA therapy to clients with challenging behavior. Therapists in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) aim to reduce challenging behaviors and teach replacement skills to clients with autism spectrum disorders under the direct supervision of BCBAs. Board Certified Behavior Analysis (BCBAs) are masters-level clinicians that complete initial assessments, design treatment protocols, and provide ongoing training to Behavior Technicians throughout a client's therapy journey.

Our Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) provide direct therapy to children using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to improve the lives of children and their families. A day in the life of an RBT might look like:

  • Consistent, block scheduling that allows you to see 2-3 clients per day with no more than 2.5 hours with each client
  • 1 hour lunch and 1 hour of “documentation” time daily for full-time staff
  • Implement therapy with a wide range of clients, typically aged 3-16 in 1:1, group, home, or community settings
  • Teach your clients important skills including ready-to-learn, play, functional living, communication and social skills
  • Follow detailed behavior intervention plans written by board-certified behavior analysts (BCBAs) to help reduce challenging behavior and increase replacement skills
  • Collect data on the programs and behavior plans implemented with your clients in order to assist with evidence-based decision-making
  • Create materials for clients as needed
  • Communicate with families before and after therapy sessions

Upon hiring, an RBT certification is not necessary. Training via online video modules, role-playing with other RBTs, and hands-on implementation with the assistance of our BCBAs is provided at the onset of the position, and new employees are compensated for their training time. Easterseals also covers the certification exam cost (one-time) and annual renewal costs.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including word processing, data processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
  • Ability to supervise children safely and independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children with disabilities, autism diagnosis, problem behaviors, etc.
  • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Bachelor's degree in a B.A. or B.S program
  • Applicants who have the Registered Behavior Technician certification are preferred, but the credential is not mandatory at hire.

Why work at Easterseals Central Illinois?

Easterseals has 75 affiliates across the nation that provide services and support to more than one million individuals and families living with a disability every year! At Easterseals Central Illinois, it is our mission to provide exceptional services to ensure that children with developmental delays, disabilities, and other special needs can reach their full potential.

The knowledge that you gain and the skills that you learn from becoming an RBT are transferable to many different positions and fields of study!

  • Pediatrics: If you are interested in going into any role that focuses on Pediatrics, this is perfect for you because the clients in ABA are generally 3-16 years old.
  • Education: A part of ABA is skill acquisition and isn’t that what education boils down to? In fact, a common undergrad degree for BCBAs is in Education!
  • Social Work or Human Services: Social workers are tasked with helping people face challenges in their lives. These challenges might include mental, behavioral, or emotional disorders as well as environmental challenges. These tasks parallel those from ABA!
  • Clinical: Pre-med, Nursing, Psychology, or Rehabilitation Therapies (just to name a few!) all collaborate with ABA and because our services are clinic based, you will have an introduction to the clinical field!

We believe that we are more than a mission. We believe that every child deserves the best, and so does our staff! Some of the “perks” that set us apart from other pediatric clinics:

  • Work/life balance: We can provide a set schedule, based on client need, which does not require any nights or weekends!
  • Dedicated documentation time: No more bringing your documentation home to complete after working your shift! Additionally, if a client cancels you still are paid for your time.
  • Collaborative environment: We provide a wide variety of services designed to promote progress! Just to name a few:
    1. Rehabilitation services: Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Feeding Therapy
    2. Behavioral services: Applied Behavioral Analysis and Counseling
    3. Clinic Services: Autism Early Diagnostic Clinic, Orthotics Clinic, Serial Casting
    4. Many Specialty services like: BrainPaint, CVI Services, Augmentative/Alternative Communication, and so many more!
  • Accreditation: Easterseals maintains one of the highest accreditations levels for two separate, independent nonprofit accrediting bodies!
    1. We received a 3-year CARF accreditation and continues be the only CARF Accredited Outpatient Medical Rehabilitation Program (Pediatric Specialty) in Central Illinois. The latest accreditation is the 8th consecutive Three-Year Accreditation that the international accrediting body, CARF, has given to Easterseals Central Illinois!
    2. We are recognized by the Behavior Health Center for Excellence (BCHOE) with its highest level of accreditation for providing excellent services to children and families through Applied Behavior Analysis. This three-year accreditation highlights Easterseals Central Illinois as the leading provider of Autism Services and Applied Behavior Analysis in downstate Illinois. Only two organizations in Illinois now hold this level of accreditation!
