Job description

Beach Gang Position overview

The Beach Gang performs a variety of manual labor tasks. Once the fishing fleet delivers seafood to us, our Beach Gang may work on the beach and/or deck of the vessel, in the vessel’s holds, and on the dock to unload the seafood from the vessel to our plant. The Beach Gang also constructs, maintains, and repairs the facility’s docks, and loads/unloads freight. Supports corporate policies and initiatives and maintains positive relationships with the fishing fleet and employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Mooring/tying up vessels to the dock, operating fish pumps to unload fish from vessels.

  • Offloading product from vessels via hand pitching into totes or brailer bags or using a fish pump.

  • Working on the decks or in the holds of fishing vessels.

  • Operating forklifts and other machinery as needed. Training required and provided at plant.

  • Maintaining, repairing, and constructing docks.

  • Sorting seafood on conveyor belts; moving fishing gear, nets, bait, and supplies to/from storage areas to/from vessels.

  • Maintaining safety training/reaction plans for hazardous spills, fires, and other emergency situations.

  • Ensuring dock operations meet environmental and safety regulations and policies.

  • Follows all company, state and federal safety policies and guidelines.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this Job, you and your crew may be regularly exposed to wet, cold or humid conditions and at times exposure to extreme cold.

  • There is the occasional exposure fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock and vibration.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery and forklift traffic.

  • There may be other hazards such as sharp knives, moving conveyors with multiple pinch points, fast moving equipment, and debris on floor that may cause a slipping or tripping hazard.

  • You as a lead will need to recognize the hazards in your area and train your crew accordingly.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, you will be regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.

  • You will occasionally be required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. You must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

  • You may occasionally be required to climb or balance.

  • It is required that you be able to see, talk and hear; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Ability to distinguish shades of color to identify abnormalities and/or defects in food products.

  • Leads must be capable of working long and variable work shifts for extended periods of time.

  • Shifts typically range from 12-18 hours with periodic breaks based on work demands, plant production, buying schedules, fish volumes and employee travel schedules.

Pay Range: $17.15/Hr. -$18.50Hr.
