BCS is offering a paid internship that combines direct service with children and special projects related to advocacy, education, and community engagement. The Burlington Children's Space, housed in the McClure Multi-Generational Center, is an economically and culturally diverse NAEYC accredited program offering early care and education for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. Programming is based on influences from Reggio Emilia, Italy, the interests and curiosities of the children, and the unique culture and resources of our local community. The Burlington Children's Space is dedicated to serving all populations and tuition is based on a sliding scale. Classrooms are open 8 - 4 pm Monday through Friday.
Projects interns have worked on in the past include:

  • Collaborating with the Food Services Manager to ensure families can access local resources such as 3 Squares, Crop Cash, and local produce.
  • Working with staff to plant and harvest produce from the school garden, develop taste tests for families, and support gardening curriculum.
  • Assisting a group of teachers implementing the Whitney Landon Award winning school wide project on civic engagement and democracy.
  • Publicizing events and sharing resources for family engagement using the school’s social media platform and the school's community partners.
  • Collecting and compiling data to be used for grant writing and reporting as well as advocacy efforts.

Duties
Supporting teachers/chef with jobs around the school, in the classroom/kitchen. We can talk more about this when we set up a meeting of interest.
Requirements
Interns are typically paid for 2-4 hours of project work with the option of 10-36 hours per week of classroom time with a group of students from 6 months to 5 years old. Candidates should have good communication skills, experience with young children, proficiency with computers, and a passion for community engagement. Individuals with a background in education, food systems, social work, or community development are encouraged to apply.
