Job description

Bar Publica will soon be opening its doors (and rooftop) in Portland's Bayside community and is actively seeking talented individuals to lead and develop its innovative tastes and fresh energy. With the aim of spicing up the local daytime-to- nightlife scene, Bar Publica is now taking applications for the exciting job opportunity of BAR MANAGER. This position comes with a $25 an hour base wage rate + tips.

The BAR MANAGER is responsible for leading the day to day management of bar operations. This involves responsibility for the financial (sales building and cost control) and operational performance of the bar; whilst effectively leading the Bar Hourly Team.

This role requires a comprehensive skill set that includes a strong beverage knowledgebase, creativity with beverage preparation and presentation, strong planning, organization, time management, effective communication skills and excellent delegation and task follow up ability to ensure that the bar business is being ran at a continually high level of productivity and efficiency. The position is also responsible for maintaining a bar with the highest standards of sanitation as outlined by local laws and internal policies. Preferred applicants will be ServSafe / TIPs certified.

The BAR MANAGER is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

− Cultivate a high-end, on brand cocktail menu, wine, and beer list

− Create recipes and pars for said menus

− Training, development, and ongoing coaching of bar staff

− Ordering and inventory, maintaining targeted COG’s and spends with assistance of GM

− Maintain levels of barware

− Create and maintain relationships with vendors

− Address staff or guest issues as they arise

− Daily reconciliation of deposits and sales, issue checks to vendors, and log invoices into system

− Responsibility and accountability for the bar business

− Leads the advancement of the beverage menus and programs for the business

− Effectively assists in achieving revenue, controlled cost and profit targets for the bar business

− Maintains inventory (product ordering, receipt & usage) and cash accountability in and out of the bar business (including accurate tracking of money owed, paid and received) as applicable

− Leads the hourly bar team during business hours ensuring bar operations (food and beverage / service and hospitality) meet our standards of excellence

− Interacts with guests, generating and maintaining the “local” environment within the location

− Ensures satisfactory resolution to all bar guest issues and coaches the hourly bar team to handle such issues

− Audits bar operational standards and implements corrective action to maintain our standards of excellence

− Leads in achieving and preserves a local Health Department Sanitation Grade A rating (or equivalent) as related to the bar

− Assists in the oversight of facility maintenance through ensuring proper care of equipment as related to the bar

− Assists with the hiring, orientation, training and scheduling of all bar staff to Company standards

− Coaches bar staff and holds them accountable for providing “Great Service” and “Genuine Hospitality” to our guests

− Acts as a representative of the beverage brand and business at the local level; developing the business as an integral part of the local community through internal community related events and external reach out / networking

− Establishes, nurtures and maintains trusted relationships with employees, guests, community groups, societies, vendors and local authorities (Alcohol Board etc.)

− Ensures that all local and state laws are followed as related to the service of alcohol

− Executes AOR’s (Areas of Responsibility) to best ensure operational task accomplishment and personal
