Salary:

Coast Inn at Lake Hood ("Coast") is recruiting for the position of Banquet Server. This is an on-call position located in Anchorage, AK. This position will report to the Food & Beverage Manager.


JOB SUMMARY:

The Banquet Server will be responsible for moving tables and chairs to set up for each event, reading the banquet event order for to handle all details, some heavy lifting, hooking up the sound system, credit card machines, and any audio/visual needs. Able to set up chafing dishes, decorate banquet tables and assemble centerpieces.


This position will interact with customers and will need to have a TAPS card and Food Handler card. Needs to be able to set up buffets and utensils, able to multitask, clean up plates in a timely manner, able to be standing or walking most of the shift. Must polish silverware and water glasses for each event.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Set tables, fold napkins in a variety of ways, get room in order for how the client requested it.
  • Know how many chafers to set up and set out food and/or beverages in a timely manner according to banquet order. Check back with guest. If not satisfied, take proper corrective action as per hotel policy, or alert manager.
  • Give out invoice if manager not onsite and collect check if needed.
  • Clean up room after event, empty garbages, clean off dishes and set at dishwasher station, spray and wash tablecloths if needed, clean coffee pot and iced tea machine.
  • Make sure room is ready for next event.
  • Have a neat and clean appearance, uniform shirts provided.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Eighteen (18) years of age or older; twenty-one (21) years of age or older for events where alcohol is served.
  • Experience required with serving.
  • Must maintain, and conform to, established union and company policies and procedures at all times.
  • Join union within 30 days of hire if not already a member.
  • Obtain all necessary permits (i.e. TAPS card, food handler permit) within 30 days of hire.
  • Provide documents that establish right to work in the United States before beginning work.


COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to communicate and comprehend English.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for duration of shift.
  • Ability to perform a full range of motions, including but not limited to lifting, bending, carrying, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds or more at times, using hands ort service trays, throughout duration of shift.
  • Ability to work in an environment that is sometimes loud and noisy.
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively with all hotel personnel and management in order to satisfy guests’ reasonable needs and desires.
  • Ability to learn and use computer ordering/retrieval system per company standards for purposes including but not limited to inputting drink orders, closing out guest checks, and running account reports.
  • Need to be a team player and work well with others, including other departments.
