Job Description
The Unemployment Insurance (UI) Contributions Unit at the Department of Workforce Services is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to fill the Bankruptcy &Prosecution Specialist/Unemployment Benefit Overpayment Collector position.
Principal Duties
This position performs the following tasks:
- Working with claimants and employers regarding bankruptcy.
- Working with employers, claimants, and attorneys preparing legal notices and correspondences.
- Meeting with creditors and representing DWS in hearings.
- Working with the DWS attorneys to determine appropriate action in response to all incoming information.
- Collecting overpayments.
- Making out-bound collection phone calls and taking credit call payments from claimants calling in answering in-bound collection phone calls.
- Making payment arrangements of over-payments.
- Pursuing legal action to collect debt.
- Answering questions and providing information to callers.
- Researching cases and entering data in the collection computer system.
- Explaining and applying agency policy and procedures, business practices, federal or state laws and regulations.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has:
- Knowledge of both Employer Collections and Benefit Overpayment collections policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of CATS-both employer collections and Benefit Overpayment screens.
- Knowledge of CUBS screens.
- Availability to go to court when necessary and comfortable working with the legal department, creditors, and attorneys.
- General knowledge of bankruptcy, legal procedures and understanding of charge offs.
- Successful collections experience.
- A positive history of communicating professionally with internal and external customers.
- Experience collecting taxes, overpayments, and delinquent data.
- Experience entering data.
- A self-starter and a finisher mindset.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain a professional demeanor during challenging customer interactions.
- Experience in collection law, rules, regulations, and methods.
- Understanding of UI benefits (especially eligibility and overpayment creation).
Preferences
- Preference may be given to applicants that speak Spanish fluently.
