The Background investigator performs background investigations on behalf of government clients. Investigators will conduct interviews, retrieve records, conduct research, and prepare reports of investigations in compliance with federal standards, all laws, and other required federal agency regulations. Casework is performed throughout the geographic area of responsibility. Travel to other geographic locations (by car or by plane) may also be required as needed.
Duties:
- Conduct personnel security background investigations on applicants and employees of the Peace Corps in accordance with the investigative control and call sheet issued with each case assigned.
- Take on a minimum of four (4) investigative assignments per month.
- Complete all investigations assigned by the required due date listed on the scoping sheet received with case assignment which is typically within 30 calendar days
- Prepare a comprehensive Report of Investigation (ROI) containing appropriate investigative coverage per the FIS and full documentation and addressing of suitability and/or national security issues.
- Other investigative-related duties (as needed) such as completing Special Investigation Projects
Qualifications:
- Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience conducting personnel background investigations for the U.S. Government compliant with current federal Investigative Standards (FIS) from 2012 to present.
- Have successfully completed a Background Investigations course that is compliant with the FIS within the last five (5) years.
- Must demonstrate the ability to interact with ease and professionalism with individuals at all levels of Federal, state and local government, and the private sector, even when addressing critical issues in the individual’s background investigation materials.
- Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing by producing quality reports of investigations that meet the scope of the background investigation designated and have few typos, quality, or grammatical deficiencies.
- Must provide a redacted sample report of investigation (ROI) particular to personnel background investigations for a Tier 5, Top Secret, initial background investigation.
