This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) BA 396 Teaching Assistant position for the College of Business at Oregon State University ( OSU).
This is a part-time Teaching Assistant (TA) position for some sections of BA396 course. Successful candidate will meet with instructor as needed and remotely help with some activities such as:
  • Reviewing and editing content on Canvas course site
  • Grading and data entry
  • Coding data for qualitative projects

Successful candidate is expected to:
  • Work one-on-one with students seeking academic help relating to BA396. (This may involve in-person and virtual meetings with students).
  • Have good interpersonal, listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be organized and have good time management skills
  • Identify and help process any academic integrity violations that may occur in the BA396 course.

Successful candidate will have access to confidential student data such as Student ID, and data relating to BA396 grades, and hence must have high integrity, strong work ethics, and must abide by OSU and FERPA rules.

Applicants must not be currently enrolled in a BA396 (Fundamentals of Marketing Research) course. Applicants must be comfortable using MS Office software as they relate to BA396.

The pay rate will be $15.20 per hour.
Position Duties
  • Typically, the job is expected to impose an average load of less than 10 hours per work.
  • There is no set percentage of time for grading, canvas management, etc.
  • This will change on a weekly basis on a need basis.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must be comfortable using and teaching MS Office software, as well as Canvas as they relate to BA 396.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Applicants must be interested in helping students with BA 396 related content.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills will be very useful.
  • TA work can mostly be done online, and familiarity with Canvas and Zoom will help immensely.
  • Successful completion of BA 396 with a B+ or higher is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with IBM SPSS is also preferred but not required.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • As the course may be an e-campus course, the job may require TAs to work and help students outside regular business hours.
