Flying Colors Aviary is a private parrot sanctuary in Langley, WA. We have a strong care ethic for the second hand birds we take in.
Our work environment includes: unheated but enclosed spaces.
``Job Responsibilities```
- Provide daily care: feed, water and clean up of parrots of all sizes, and facility.
- Build perch systems, install forage.
- Be able to move quickly on uneven terrain and stairs, stay on your feet moving between tasks for several hours at a time, and lift 40-50 lb sacks occasionally.
- Monitor the health and behavior of the birds and report any concerns to the supervisor.
- Be detail oriented, able to work independently and follow through on daily tasks.
- Be able to adapt and respond to changes and guidance by management as we adjust to the changing needs of the birds.
- Communicate closely with the other bird caretakers and management, including a daily written shift log. You must also be able to read, understand and retain the shift logs of the other caretakers and management. This is crucial because it creates continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate records of bird care, medical treatments, and behavioral observations.
Due to the difficulty of finding housing on Whidbey Island, you must currently have housing arranged on the island to be considered.
```Experience```
- Previous experience in animal care or related field preferred.
- Knowledge of positive reinforcement is useful.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.50 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 38 per week
