Job description

Under general direction of the Program Manager, the Automotive Technician (AT) III is responsible for the supervision and operation of the activities of the Vehicle Sales Unit in the Fleet Operations Section, West Sacramento facility. Duties and responsibilities are accomplished through five AT IIs, one Property Controller I, three Custodians, and one Maintenance Worker.
Plan, organize, and supervise the daily functions of staff. Evaluate, prioritize, and delegate work commitments or demands, approve requests for time off, and adjust work schedules and assignments of personnel. Perform annual performance appraisals; interpret, investigate, and settle first step grievances; and perform progressive discipline. Review and approve attendance reports. Participate in the selection and hiring process of personnel including conducting interviews and completion of required paperwork. Provide employee training to ensure maximum efficiency of unit operations.
Complete written reports, evaluations, memorandums, and other correspondence to allied agencies, departmental employees, companies, and corporations regarding the Department's Vehicle Sales program. Analyze detailed records; write letters and reports; prepare budget estimates; and analyze situations and take effective action. Direct the repair and maintenance work for conformance to agency standards and review progress of the work. Inspect and test completed work; maintain shop tools and equipment. Schedule and inspect repair work being performed in private repair shops. Represent the Department in contact with repair shops, parts houses, and equipment manufacturers.

Working Conditions
Work will be between a climate controlled office and working in an automotive shop, with varying and sometimes extreme conditions.
