Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Automotive Mechanic without more than normal supervision. I am skilled in troubleshooting major assemblies of various types of vehicles, utilizing diagnostic analyzers on both military and civilian vehicles, tearing down complex components, reassembling complex components in accordance with manufacturer's specifications, repairing major assemblies, and conducting final reviews of repairs.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

• PHYSICAL EFFORT

The Automotive Mechanic makes repairs under the vehicle, and where the parts worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The mechanic frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 lbs. Occasionally, may life and carry items that weigh about 50 lbs.

• WORKING CONDITIONS

Most work at this grade is accomplished in a maintenance facility where it is drafty and noisy, and fumes from vehicles are usually present. The Automotive Mechanic must frequently stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time. There are times where the mechanic must crawl under vehicles and make repairs while on hard, usually damp surfaces. The Automotive Mechanic is occasionally called upon to perform repairs outside, sometimes in bad weather. Dirt, dust, and grease are always present. Vehicle fluids such as battery acids and hydraulic fluids, may cause burns or irritate the skin.
