Automation Controls Engineer

As part of our Manufacturing team, you'll help move the business into the 21st century by implementing new technologies, robotics and automation in order to achieve exceptional product quality, cost and productivity efficiencies and a safer work environment for our associates. This will involve applying engineering principles and data driven analytical techniques to advance continuous improvement of our manufacturing processes and products.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Identify and analyze manufacturing problems to control and improve manufacturing
• Review proposed changes in plant layout, processes, material handling, routing, etc
• Oversee production controls systems and associated systems
• Conduct root cause analysis of downtime issues to prevent recurrence (4D process)
• Lead problem solving and implementation teams in resolving tooling, equipment and cycle time performance issues and downtime
• Coordinate resources to find root cause and fixes, manage and breakdown problems into items that can be validated. Determine proper validation methods
• Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and improvements
• Update program backups for machinery and automation
• Program new installations of automation, machinery, material handling, and robots
•  As part of a team, review risk assessments and evaluate equipment safety
•  Assist in training manufacturing personnel and plant technicians
• Read and modify electrical prints and schematics, Auto CAD
• Perform PC backup disc images and installation of communication and firmware and controls software
• Support maintenance personnel to evaluate requirements for maintaining and improving production yields, throughput, and up time a. Analyze equipment performance and work to improve efficiencies; actively participate in Constraint Review Process
• Provide oversight of controls and automation to include: a. Indirect supervision of maintenance technicians supporting production and facilities operations. b. Robot, Automation and controls changes associated with process tooling and equipment. Includes programming and logic changes
• Work with Engineering Manager to launch new programs or equipment, optimize Automation and Controls systems for process tooling
• Be willing to work any shift as well as rotating shifts, overtime and weekends
• Assists R & D effort to implement new products or process into production
• Assesses existing processes for areas of improvement utilizing Lean Manufacturing concepts (Kaizen, TPM, Value Stream Mapping, etc.) Six Sigma, designed experiment techniques, capability studies, etc
• Leads, where applicable, or works in conjunction with Quality Assurance, to monitor and document quality standards
• Performs other duties as assigned

Education

• Engineering Bachelor's Degree or 3 or more years of Controls Engineering experience troubleshooting technical equipment in a manufacturing environment
• Proficient with AutoCAD
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Experience MUST have Robotics

Experience

• MUST have Electrical Controls experience
• MUST be able to demonstrate previous examples of problem-solving utilizing data/spec driven techniques

Skills/Abilities

• MUST have exceptional communication skills
• Preferred knowledge of six sigma methodology
• Safety and quality minded
• Fundamental working knowledge of:
  •  AB, Siemens, Fanuc, ABB and common controls logic
  •  PLC language - AB, Siemens
  •  Print and schematics - One-line, ladder, and utility schematics
  •  Vision systems
• Familiarity with plant monitoring systems to review cycle time, review and follow up project installations
• Demonstrated tenure of working independently with limited supervision
• Validated history of assigning work to other technicians
• Organized and detail oriented
• Self-motivated and team oriented 
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts
• Outstanding leadership, interpersonal and teambuilding skills
• Bi-lingual preferred
• Other Minimal travel required
