The Automation and Controls Engineer designs and develops control systems as well as automated equipment and machinery, and implements tests designed to evaluate the integrity of automated and/or control systems. This position defines areas where introducing automation into otherwise manual processes or tasks will improve production and efficiency and drives automation related activities. The Automation and Controls Engineer understands the science of instrumentation and the automatic control of dynamic processes, and applies this knowledge to the planning, design, development, operation, and evaluation of control systems to ensure the safety and practical operability of such processes.

Estimated starting annual base salary is $123,163.57 - $184,745.35 less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. Please note that the actual compensation offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined by the Company, which may include, but is not limited to, location, experience, qualifications, education, skillset, and market conditions. The target base compensation for this role is in the low to middle of the range, with the top of the range reserved for only exceptional circumstances. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary, variable annual incentive, paid based on Company performance factors. • Collaborate across organizational and department functions to identify areas where introducing Automation and/or controls could improve production and efficiency.
• Prepare specifications and design calculations, review, and check designs, prepare and review material quantity estimates, and prepare forecasts and change.
• Implement tests to evaluate the integrity of control systems, automated equipment, and machinery.
• Design and develop control systems, automated equipment, and machinery.
• Collaborate with team on Automation and Controls projects and activities and validate results.
• Integrate legacy systems to modern systems (Allen-Bradley, Wonderware, SCADA type software, etc.).
• Provide technical support in relation to control systems, automated equipment, and machinery.
• Write documentation manuals that detail automated processes and Controls.
• Document any changes in existing equipment design or operation.
• Keep abreast of control system theory developments and identify suitable opportunities for new technology or techniques.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5 years of Automation and Controls Engineering experience.
• Ability to perform statistical analysis to focus efforts on top losses or opportunities.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams in root cause analysis and technology implementation.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and independent decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D design).

• Master’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• Six Sigma, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and/or Lean Manufacturing certification.
• Project Management certification (PMP, etc.).
• Knowledge of FDA Regulations, failure investigation principles and/or statistical principles and analysis.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
