The King County Library System (KCLS) is seeking a creative and experienced Audio Visual (A/V) Specialist to support our growing audio-visual program environment. The Audio Visual (A/V) Specialist position offers a unique work life balance and the opportunity to design and install new A/V technologies implemented within the library system.
About the Opportunity:
KCLS is looking to actively expand and enhance its A/V systems across our libraries, and the Audio Visual (A/V) Specialist will help play a key role in defining and implementing standards for meeting spaces and providing creative solutions to ensure that in-person and hybrid meetings are successful and accessible for our patrons across King County.
The Audio Visual (A/V) Specialist will provide technology access and support to under-served populations in King County by building and developing a system-wide approach for our A/V infrastructure. This role involves researching, designing, installing, and supporting A/V systems used by KCLS. Additionally, the Audio Visual (A/V) Specialist is responsible for A/V training and instruction where needed for both department staff and users. Specific tasks related to projector installation, support, maintenance, mobile TV cart provisioning, and sound installations and or support are all contained within the expected job duties.
The Audio Visual (A/V) Specialist will travel to community libraries throughout the KCLS service area. Often includes direct community engagement and supports the ongoing programs offered by community library members in support of the mission and strategic focus of KCLS. There will be limited night and weekend shift expectations.

Examples of Duties
Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities:
The following tasks may be performed as part of this role. These examples are not necessarily performed by all individuals in this role, and do not include all specific tasks an individual may be expected to perform.
  • Conducts research, designs, implements, and maintains A/V conference room systems.
  • Installs and supports a variety of A/V components, including but not limited to video displays, projectors, screens, and speakers.
  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert for A/V systems used by KCLS.
  • Provides training on new and existing A/V technologies for departmental staff and users as required.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date documentation of KCLS's A/V systems and processes.
  • Coordinates with local and outside customer and technical groups to bridge providers.
  • Interfaces with high-level executive personnel and/or guest speakers.
  • Interfaces with other technical team members and technical personnel groups.
  • Assists management in coordination of conferences, meetings, or other events.
  • Conducts conference room audio-visual evaluation status of rack-mounted components such as switches, control systems, A/V cabling, video converters/distribution boxes, video conference systems, cameras, displays, amplifiers and mixers.
  • Performs start-up and basic debugging of A/V and automation systems.
  • Evaluates the status of aspects of PCs where they interface with above types of equipment.
  • Evaluates the status of network for above equipment.

Secondary Duties:
  • Perform all job duties of a CTS Specialist as assigned.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and ensures equipment is in good working order; makes minor adjustments and repairs to equipment; logs repairs with proper documentation and notifies management when correction of major malfunctions is necessary.
  • Maintains records and inventory of all cabling and equipment to ensure proper quantities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Desired Minimum Qualification
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school with major in information systems, business applications programming or related field; and

  • Two (2) years' experience with end-user systems to customer, and proficiency in the use of personal computers including such programs as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the classification will be considered.

  • Technical certifications such as A+, Network+, MSCA preferred
  • Video editing/audio engineering hardware/software experience preferred

Physical Demands & Work Environment
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly using hands in conjunction with frequent finger use and keyboarding, this computer work may be repetitive up to occasionally. Constantly sits and will seldom stand or walk. Will frequently reach up to chest level with hands and arms to work at a desk. The employee will occasionally lift to 10 pounds and seldom up to 35 pounds and seldom push/pull carts using light force.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in a typical office environment and requires a strong team orientation. The position requires driving to community libraries to work in areas with A/V equipment. Extensive PC monitor work is required. Some pressure from deadlines or changing priorities exists and interruptions to workflow can occur. Additional work environment characteristics are representative of those any employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.
