Compensation and Benefits

$19.23/hour – $23.59/hour | Salary is negotiable dependent upon experience.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Studio Director, the Audio Book Editor is responsible for operating recording equipment and directing narrators for style and pronunciation during sessions.


This position allows for a hybrid work schedule for those who reside in Louisville, Kentucky.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research and format books and magazines for recording.
  • After recording, follow print copy of book while listening to recorded version to check for errors, mispronunciations, proper formatting, and background noise.
  • Utilize in-house software to edit audio files and create Digital Talking Books.
  • Maintain paper and electronic records.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Equipment, Machines, Tools, and Work Aids

  • Computers and online search engines.
  • Digital audio software.
  • Analog tape machines.
  • Extensive research materials including dictionaries and professional sources, such as authors and professors.

Education, Training, and Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in English, Linguistics, Foreign Language, Communications, or a related field is required.
  • Pronouncing knowledge of at least one foreign language, or coursework in at least one foreign language is required. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Successful candidate must pass a test to measure the ability to recognize problems in recorded materials.
  • Proficient word processing ability and research and organizational skills required.
  • Experience or interest in audio software processing is preferred.
