Description:The purpose of this position is to supervise and instruct students in the assigned areas of vocational training and career development; to teach students entry-level employment skills for a career in the stated field; to establish and maintain an orderly, safe, and well-disciplined classroom learning environment; and to perform other job-related duties as assigned. This position is under the general supervision of the CTE Coordinator/Principal and may supervise instructional assistants or other related clerical staff.
NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance
Qualifications:
  • 5 years of Industry experience and have ODE CTE license OR
  • 5 years Industry experience and ability to obtain a CTE license within 4 years by completing the 24 hour coursework. Courswork must be started in the first 2 years of the initial license OR
  • 5 years of industry experience, possess an ODE teacher license, and complete the 12 hour CTE license pathway within 4 years. Courswork must be started in the first of 2 years of the initial licesne.
* assistance to complete coursework will be provided by the district upon board approval for hiring
Other Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in the technical skills, trade, or vocations to be taught are required, and one (1) of the three (3) years of the required. experience must be within the last five (5) years, or two (2) years within the last ten (10) years.
  • Up to two (2) years of the required experience may be substituted (with additional approval) of related post high school education, apprenticeship program, or college preparation course work).

Essential Functions:
  • Instruct students in the area of Audio Production such as: Television production, musical performances, Audio and competencies of audio productions
  • Implements an instructional program that builds student skills and competencies in broadcast media including stage and live productions, film, television, radio, web/pod casting, and emerging broadcasting technologies
  • Manage and maintain program facilities and equipment
  • Develop student Audio and Video projects
  • Implement inquiry-based learning projects and Project Based Learning
  • Prepare students for internships and job shadows in the field
  • Collaborate on programs/events/activities with school and community entities as determined by the production
  • Maintain students' awareness of industries' employment needs and requirements
  • Instruct students in appropriate job-seeking and retention skills
  • Establish and maintain a well-disciplined and orderly classroom learning environment; observe and evaluate students' work site performance
  • Establish and maintain safety policies and procedures for classrooms and work sites
  • Evaluate students' performance by assessing needs, testing skills and knowledge, and then communicating results to the student; develop, update, and maintain students' training/instructional plans
  • Communicate effectively with counselors, administrators, parents, and staff concerning students' progress and program needs
  • Evaluate, select, develop, and adapt a variety of appropriate instructional materials
  • Promote student and communitywide awareness of the CTE program and recruit students; guide students in making career-related decisions
  • Instruct students in appropriate entry-level job skills
  • Assist students in obtaining employment
  • Establish and maintain safety policies and procedures for classrooms and work sites
  • Maintain a variety of complete and accurate records for necessary reports
  • Maintain and update occupational skills, appropriate industry awareness, and community involvement as it relates to the successful performance Ensure safety of students
  • Teach and evaluate the students using sound instructional practice
  • Effectively manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment, disciplining students when necessary
  • Prepare clear and timely lesson plans
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required
  • Provide guidance to students which will promote their welfare and their proper educational development
  • Attend parent/teacher conferences
  • Distribute homework assignments
  • Ensure students are learning all subject material by testing, quizzing, or evaluating student projects on a regular basis
  • Provide complete lesson plans for substitut
  • Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educationally related purposes before and after the instructional day
  • Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional growth seminars, workshops, etc.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective use of interim reports, report cards and conferences
  • Observe ethics of the teaching profession
  • Instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Refer students suspected of learning disabilities for diagnosis on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required
  • Assist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life and conduct
  • Notify parents if student is not meeting classroom goals
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities?
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete, and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners
  • Act as teacher, facilitator and information source in subject area specialty
  • Teach new concepts and facilitate different activities enabling students to learn in different ways
  • Assist in the hiring process of same subject teachers when requested and agreed upon
  • Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
  • ?Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., home and discipline situations, medical background and family history
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required
  • Refer attendance, health, and psychological emotional problems to Principal and/or Guidance Counselor
  • Attend professional growth seminars, workshops, etc., to keep current on relevant issues
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
  • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined in the courses of study which have been approved by the Board of Education
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Attend work based learning field trips
  • Participate on building "teams" when requested and agreed upon
  • Work closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and implement new practices such as "team" teaching, semester projects, etc.
  • Act as department chairperson when requested and agreed upon
  • Serve as a role model for students
  • Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other instructional materials
  • Serve on committees and cocurricular activities as agreed upon
  • Supervise student teachers
  • Discipline students when necessary
  • Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
