Attorney-Advisor (General)

This position is located in the Department of Defense, Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG), Office of General Counsel (OGC). OGC provides independent and objective legal counsel and advice to the Inspector General and OIG components.Qualifications: Basic Requirements:

• To meet the basic requirements, you must possess a J.D., LL.B., or LL.M degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
• Applicants must be an active member, in good standing, of the bar of the highest court of a state, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. Territory, or the District of Columbia, and be permitted to engage in the practice of law or pending admission to the Bar.

In addition to the basic requirements noted above, resume must document the specialized experience listed below:
Specialized experience GS-11 Level: To qualify for the GS-11 position, applicants' resume must demonstrate 1 year of professional legal experience at the GS-09 level in the federal service in preparing drafts of pleadings and motions for litigation cases; conducting investigations to obtain facts, analyzing legal precedents, and formulating recommendations; as well as supporting attorneys in court by cross-examining witnesses, and drafting findings of fact, conclusions of law, and orders based on the record.
OR
Posses a Master of Law (LL.M.) degree.
OR
Be a part of a special high-level honors for academic excellence in law school (e.g., membership in the Order of the Coif or Law Review, winning of a moot court competition, or membership on the moot court team that represents the attorney's law school in competition with other law schools).
Specialized Experience GS-12 Level: To qualify for the GS-12 position, applicants' resume must demonstrate 2 years of professional legal experience, equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal service in preparing draft pleadings and motions for litigation cases; conducting investigations to gather facts, analyzing legal precedents, and formulating recommendations; as well as supporting attorneys in court by cross-examining witnesses and drafting findings of fact, conclusions of law, and orders based on the case record.
OR
Posses a Master of Law degree and 1 year of professional law experience in preparing draft pleadings and motions for litigation cases; conducting investigations to gather facts, analyzing legal precedents, and formulating recommendations; as well as supporting attorneys in court by cross-examining witnesses and drafting findings of fact, conclusions of law, and orders based on the case record.
Specialized Experience GS-13 Level: To qualify for the GS-13, applicants resume must demonstrate 2 years of professional legal experience at a level equivalent to GS-12 in the Federal Service, specifically serving as an attorney who provides legal advice and counsel in at least two of the following fields: a) federal criminal law, b) civil law, and/or c) administrative law.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience.
