Charles Wright Academy (CWA) is a co-educational, non-religious, independent school located in University Place, WA. Charles Wright Academy is located on a beautiful, green, and sprawling 107-acre campus that includes athletic fields and more than 60 acres of gorgeous Pacific Northwest forests that also serve as an extension of our proper academic campus. Position Description:
Position is responsible for supervising and organizing the on-campus Trainer’s Room which is spacious and well equipped. The Physical Education Teacher/Athletic Trainer will be a first responder for acute injuries that occur during practices and games. They will provide basic medical assistance for all high impact home contests and will travel with away games when necessary. The trainer will evaluate, treat, rehabilitate, prevent, and manage musculoskeletal injuries. They will also be teaching 2-3 Physical Education classes during the day and are eligible for additional coaching responsibilities that they receive a stipend for if experience and interest in coaching is applicable.
Responsibilities:
The Physical Education Teacher/Athletic Trainer, as directed by the Athletic Director, will oversee Upper School, Middle School and Youth Athletic practices and games as a healthcare professional support by providing:
- Recognize and evaluate injuries.
- Assist coaching staff and students in preventative measures to minimize injuries.
- Develop and carry out rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
- Show empathy and compassion, along with strong sportsmanship.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Apply protective or injury-preventive devices, such as tape, bandages and braces.
- Inventory medical supplies in training room and med kits.
- Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Head of School
Qualifications:
- Candidates will possess appropriate expertise and experience for an applicant able to perform the duties as outlined in this posting and deliver consistent and excellent outcomes.
- Qualified candidates will have a current Athletic Trainer License or commensurate qualification and a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Preferred candidates will have a Certified Athletic Trainer License, a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and experience working as a Physical Education Teacher, Coach, and/or Athletic Trainer.
- Qualified candidates will possess a strong commitment to the CWA Athletic Department, serve as a champion of diversity and inclusion and cultural competency, possess the ability to inspire and challenge young people, the capacity to work cooperatively with peers, a keenness for working with school-aged children K-12, a strong work ethic, and a joyful sense of humor. Candidates should be able to work flexibly with various educational technologies and an ability to navigate Google Workspace and Mac hardware/systems is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to move easily around a classroom, accessing materials and assisting student-athletes as needed.
- Must be able to communicate and exchange information with students, families, and coaches with appropriately sensitive and accurate communication skills.
- Assist injured athletes.
Salary & Benefits
This position has a salary range between $60,000 and $80,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits available are subject to plan and candidate eligibility.
