195-DAY CONTRACT/FULL-TIME TENURE TRACK
This a full-time tenure track faculty position. The teaching assignment could include a mixture of day, evening, and weekend classes at the Weed campus, the Yreka campus, or other off- campus sites.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Injury Prevention
- Organize pre-participation health screenings.
- Assist the team physician in pre-participation health screenings.
- Identify and protect pre-existing physical conditions that might predispose the athlete to injury.
- Determine whether the athletic equipment and facilities are safe to use for competition or practice.
- Advise coaches during pre-season, in season, and off-season strength, conditioning and flexibility sessions.
- Educate athletics to prevent the use of dangerous skills and techniques.
- Design, fabricate, fit and apply appropriate taping, wrapping, and protective devices to prevent athletic injury.
- Monitor environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and make recommendations relative to athletic performance.
- Recognize and evaluate injuries in order to determine the degree of injury, the proper transportation of the injured athlete, the ability of the athlete to return to participation, and/or the appropriate medical referral.
- Develop therapeutic and exercise criteria for the return of the injured athlete to functional participation to minimize re-injury.
- Evaluate the use of rehabilitation equipment, manual techniques, and therapeutic modalities to determine their appropriate use and application.
- Select and administer appropriate first aid using proper emergency care procedures and equipment.
- Coordinate athletic training coverage for practices and games according to the nature of the sport as it pertains to the possibility of injury.
- Establish a standardized written procedure for planning, organizing, and implementing health care services.
- Establish with emergency support services an emergency triage plan.
- Document all athletic training treatments and services provided by health care professionals.
- Recommend the purchase equipment and supplies.
- Organize and administer all aspects of record keeping, budgeting, facilities upkeep including the policies and procedures of the total athletic training program.
- Developed and supervise a student Athletic Trainer program.
- Establish a communication system to provide coaches with a day-to-day progress report on their injured athletes.
- Coordinate with Local Emergency Medical Services Agencies for game day coverage.
- Review previous injuries and work with athletes to assess personal status for safe participation.
- Provide information on health topics such as substance abuse, diet, etc., and if needed refer the athlete to specialist for counseling or consultation in areas of personal, social, or emotional problems.
- Advise athletic staffs and teams on potentially hazardous situation to ensure safe participation.
- Provide instruction that may include lecture, laboratory, and activity classes in the discipline in accordance with established College of the Siskiyous approved curriculum and course outlines
- inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance and participation requirements in a course syllabus
- Effectively teach and communicate with students of diverse backgrounds.
- Advise students on academic and career matters
- Assist in outreach with high schools, four-year colleges and universities
- Post and maintain adequate and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.
- Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submit them according to published guidelines, prepare and grade class assignments and evaluations according to course syllabus.
- Remain current in field, develop, maintain and evaluate curriculum including development and assessment of student learning outcome
- Select textbooks and evaluate course materials
- Interact with faculty and staff in other areas of instruction and participate in the development of instructional methods, technology, and materials.
- Work with peers in higher education, and where appropriate, business and industry to maintain currency of instructional programs.
- Participate in college governance by serving on college committees? participate in professional development, including flex obligation
- Assist with student and other educational activities in accordance with college policies
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in kinesiology, Physical Education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in Physical Education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive Physical Education OR the equivalent
- Three years of athletic training experience
- Current Athletic Trainer (ATC) and CPR certificates are required by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Note: Applicants applying under "equivalency" must provide the following: Equivalency Application. Grid that compares upper graduate coursework with a degree that meets minimum qualifications of the discipline.
- Ability to teach courses at the community college level.
- Five years of recent collegiate level athletic training experience.
- Excellence in teaching (enthusiasm, knowledge of subject matter, student motivational skills, diverse teaching methods to address a variety of learning styles).
- Commitment to community college education as demonstrated in personal and/or professional experience. Understanding of the CCCAA constitution and Bylaws.
- Ability to assume the duties of the operating the athletic training room, to promote the program, and a commitment to the academic success of student athletes.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues, students, and with both on-campus groups, and off-campus community groups and educational and educational partners.
- Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in the athletic training discipline.
- Strong academic preparation as evidenced by undergraduate and graduate level coursework.
- Interest in and/or ability to use relevant and modern technology, including on-line instruction. Ability to communicate clearly with students and staff, both orally and in writing.

Salary & Benefits
The annual salary range for a 195-day contract is: $70,311 to $128,667. Starting placement on the District salary schedule is based upon years of experience and number of units completed beyond the Master's degree. New academic employees may receive credit for no more than five years of job-related experience. Starting salary range is $70,311 to $91,965. Faculty members with an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution receive an additional $2,000 annual stipend. The District offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage to employees and qualified dependents. The employee participates in CalSTRS through District and employee contributions.
Selection Process
After the preliminary screening, selected candidates will be invited to the campus for an initial interview with the Search Committee. At the discretion of the District, videoconference interviews (in lieu of an in-person initial interview) may be offered. Candidates to be interviewed will be selected from applicants who most closely meet the minimum and desired qualifications. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview. The Search Committee will recommend a slate of finalists to the Superintendent/President for a final interview.
The District reserves the right to re-advertise the position or to delay indefinitely filling of the position if it is deemed that applicants for the position do not constitute an adequate applicant pool or if funding is not available.
Conditions of Employment
Employees must satisfy all the pre-employment requirements prior to appointment that include, but are not limited to, tuberculosis clearance (EC 87408.6), fingerprint processing, and verification of their legal right to work in the United States.
