JOB DUTIES
  • The Athletics Trainer delivers health care to all of the colleges NJCAA athletic programs
  • Supervises and confers with the college's medical advisor on proper conditioning treatment and rehabilitation of student-athletes both in and our-of-season.
  • Responsible for maintaining state licensure and national certification by annually completing necessary continuing education as well as the requirements of CPR, AED, and first aid.
  • Responsible for budget, inventory, and other required materials needed to supply and operate the Athletics Training Room.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversees treatment of minor healthcare problems of student-athletes such as temporary relief of cold symptoms, headache, allergies, etc., in consultation with medical advisor; and medically clearing student-athletes when eligible.
  • Establish dates for pre-season physical and medical evaluations of student-athletes in consultation with college's medical advisor.
  • Prepare student-athletes for daily practices, scrimmages and games by applying protective and preventative taping, bracing, and padding of athletic-related injuries.
  • Responsible for delivering protocols of therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation to athletic-related injuries and maintain confidentiality of medical records of all student-athletes.
  • Work in collaboration with strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs.
  • Responsible for medical counseling of all athletic-related injuries and illnesses inquired by student-athletes.
  • Coordinate medical coverage for home contests and tournaments as needed.
  • Cover in-season home contests which should include a flexible schedule for night, weekends, and tournament events.
  • File athletic injury insurance claims forms and works with claims adjuster to ensure invoices are paid.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with coaches and director regarding athletic injury and recovery status, while adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Other duties as delegated by the Director of Athletics, Fitness & Recreation

WORKING CONDITIONS
Job responsibilities are performed in office, indoor and outdoor environments including inclement weather. This position also requires potential occasional travel to away contests.
Note that assigned tasks and responsibilities on both campuses is required for all MCCC positions.
ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, employee is required to use hands to finger, handle of feel, reach with hands and arms, walk and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
Positions in this class typically require: ability to use a key board, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to work in general outdoor weather conditions and in an environment of moderate noise.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Required Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training, Sports Training, Health & Physical Education, or Physical Therapy
  • Two-three (2 - 3) years' of professional experience as an Athletic Trainer as well as two - three (2 - 3) years' experience in athletics administration.
  • Current NATA BOC certification, licensed by the State of New Jersey
  • Familiar with NCAA and/or NJCAA governing rules
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree in Athletic Training or Physical Therapy
  • Five (5) years' related experience and/or training in athletics administration.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including ability to work with diverse array of individuals
  • Familiarity with various computer software programs.
