Job Title: Athletic League Coordinator
Location: Various RTPD facilities and parks
Start Date: Ongoing
Work Hours: Weeknights & weekends
Compensation: $14.00 - $15.50 per hour to start
Reports to: Recreation Supervisor of Youth Athletics
Essential Functions
The Athletic League Coordinator is responsible for the general league operations, functions and supervision to all youth and adult athletic programming including leagues, classes and camps.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the park district's policies and operations and enforce them in a positive manner
  • Participate with the Recreation Department as a team member to assist and improve the overall services to the community
  • Plan, organize, implement and supervise all Athletic League activities
  • Travel from site-to-site to drop in on games when necessary
  • Handles distribution of league information & other supplies and equipment
  • Communicate with supervisor on weekly basis to review program details
  • Observe and evaluate game day sport specific activities in a timely and efficient manner
  • Report scores to supervisor
  • Assists in forming teams/rosters and game and staff schedules for youth leagues
  • Supervise game day staff including scorekeepers and referees
  • Responsible for overseeing equipment including set-up and take down, transporting to and from game site(s) and reporting any damaged equipment
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work environment
  • Attend and participate in staff and training meetings
  • Must assist in solving any verbal or physical arguments
  • Perform other duties and functions as assigned

Risk Management
  • Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety program of the River Trails Park District
  • Actively supports and enforces the safety program instituted by the Park District
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all general agency and department-specific safety rules
  • Attends required safety program and in-service education meetings as directed
  • Correct unsafe conditions and/or reports them to your director supervisor
  • Enforce safety disciplinary policies and procedures
  • Use protective gloves, masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to pathogens

Required Qualifications:
  • 18 years or older
  • Must possess the ability to work with and relate to participants of various ages, coaches, parents & other staff in a professional manner
  • Must be available on game days and various office hours throughout the season
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Recommended Qualifications:
  • Degree in Parks and Recreation or related field
  • Knowledge of game rules and sport specific skills
  • Fair, attentive, enthusiastic and display good sportsmanship
  • Demonstrates good organization skills
  • Knowledge of first aid for minor injuries
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Recreation major or other sport specific related experience (coaching or playing) preferred
  • Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 3 months of employment

5. Employee will be required to perform the following work:
Sedentary Work Lifting 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
X Light Work. Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree or when it involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
Light Medium Work. Lifting 30 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
Medium Work. Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Light Heavy Work. Lifting 75 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
Heavy Work. Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
