Job description

Position Summary: The Athletic Desk Receptionist is responsible for creating the first and last impressions of the club experience for the Members by providing all Warm Welcomes, Magic Moments, and Fond Farewells

Essential Functions and Expectations of the Athletic Desk Receptionist:

  • Ensure that all members/guests check in when using the Athletic facilities and Sage Spa.
  • Ensure all members/guest are addressed by name.
  • Answer telephones promptly and courteously and direct all calls to the appropriate areas.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the following as applicable: Brammer Studio reservation policy, Personal Training, Fitness Programs reservation policy, Group Exercise class descriptions, class reservation schedules, and all upcoming club events and specials.
  • To connect members to other members through ongoing contact with the members and promotion of club activities.
  • To create personalized service for members/guest including providing towel and water service upon request.
  • To promote the facility amenities, programs and the Club while maintaining a high level of professionalism and service that aligns with the values, philosophies, and standards of the club. This includes being in club-approved uniform and nametag.
  • Perform opening and closing duties of business functions following guidelines and procedures established by the Club.
  • Responsible for seeing that daily assignments are completed in their respective areas, to meet Club standards and as communicated (i.e. orderly/organized work areas, straighten/arrange entry area, straightening/stocking of shop, etc.)
  • Assist fellow employees, members/guests to ensure delivery of the 3 steps of service without being directed. Be aware of team members and the environment and participate as a member of the team.
  • Notify supervisor of member/guest complaints at the time they occur. Rectify, practicing service recover, any complaints as soon as possible.
  • Attending department/club meetings and training.
  • Co-ordinates maintenance work with engineering and maintenance departments.
  • Knowledge of all safety and emergency procedures. Is aware of accident prevention policies. Also know what action to take when an emergency call is requested or received.
  • Because of the fluctuating demands of the Clubs operation, it may be necessary that each employee perform a multitude of different functions therefore, as an essential part of your job, you will be expected to help others when the occasion arises, just as other employees are expected to help you. Accordingly, you may be expected to perform other tasks as needed or as directed.
  • Assists with the clean-up of the men’s and lady’s locker rooms, and Sage Spa as needed.
  • Other work responsibilities or special projects as assigned by club management.

Essential Functions and Expectations of the Locker Room Attendant:

Duties include helping the members/guest with their things, assisting with lockers, and keeping locker room spaces secure and organized. Providing clean towels, polishing foot ware, and maintaining locker room supplies.

  • Keep all areas of the locker room clean and organized.
  • Regularly check and refill all standard toiletries.
  • Restock all towel levels as needed.
  • Follow the opening, ongoing, and closing checklists.
  • Take all dirty laundry to the housekeeping laundry room and garbage to the dumpsters.
  • Greet and engage all members/guests, provide and assist them with whatever they need.
  • Assign members/guests a locker if requested.
  • Direct members/guests to their next destination.
  • Polish all shoes upon request and return them to the proper locker.
  • Other work responsibilities or special projects as assigned by club management.

Training and/or Education:

  • High School diploma
  • Must be CPR/First Aid Certified
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time (6-10 hrs.)
  • Adhere to appearance standards as described in the employee handbook
  • Friendly and outgoing personality

Expectations:

  • Become familiar with the culture, history and expectations of The University Club of Washington, DC.
  • Thorough knowledge of the clubs' services, amenities with-in the Athletic department.
  • Strong skills in customer service and to work independently and as part of a team. Strong ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Understand membership service needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of membership information.
  • Energetic, positive, professional, and self-motivated personality with effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment.
  • Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
