Athena Film Festival Post Baccalaureate Fellowship
Job Summary:
The Post Baccalaureate Fellowship program is a research and career development opportunity for graduating seniors and recent Barnard graduates. The Fellowship is a one-year program (with the possibility of renewal) consisting of various placements that allow for the development of professional career skills, on-going technical and workplace learning, and an opportunity to apply subject matter expertise to new technologies, digital scholarship, creative writing, etc. All fellows engage together as part of a cohort in on-going professional development and learning from Beyond Barnard in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources. Reporting to a faculty or Center director, fellowships are full time paid appointments with health benefits. The fellowship will extend from July 3 through June 30 (depending on the Center) and include paid holiday and vacation days. Fellows will be paid a stipend of $45,000 per annum.
Job Description:
The Athena Film Festival Post Baccalaureate Fellow will be responsible for supporting the programming for the 2024 Athena Film Festival, as well as various aspects of festival operations. This includes, but is not limited to the creation and execution of programming, oversight of festival production and logistics, drafting and coordination of communications and outreach, and contributing to the Festival's Creative Development Program work which supports filmmakers working on women-centric projects.
This Fellowship is a unique and valuable opportunity for students interested in pursuing advanced degrees and/or careers in film or media studies. By the end of the Fellowship, the Fellow will have gained meaningful behind-the-scenes Film Festival experience, in-depth programming and curatorial experience, as well as gained valuable knowledge of the industry landscape to better understand what opportunities they would like to pursue in the future.
As a full-time member of the Athena Center staff, the Fellow is expected to attend Center staff meetings, Barnard all-staff meetings, participate in Athena Center events (including Leadership Council events), and support other Athena Center events/operations as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the short film submission process for the 2024 Athena Film Festival, including managing the submission platform, tracking and reviewing films, coordinating with a select number of programming fellows and/or judges.
  • Work closely with the programming team led by Artistic Director, Melissa Silverstein, to support feature film programming. This includes researching films, requesting films, and watching and reviewing films for consideration.
  • Take the lead on generating content for external communications including social media, the website, the festival's wrap report, monthly newsletters, and strategize new avenues to engage additional Barnard and Columbia stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager to assist with the planning and logistics of the festival and related festival events.
  • Oversee the Athena Film Festival general inbox.
  • review and respond to email inquiries.
  • Analyze data collected from the festival and support robust record-keeping.

This is a full-time position that offers a flexible schedule, including up to two remote work days. The role requires the ability to work outside of normal business hours as necessary during the weeks prior to the Festival. Must be available to work the entire weekend of the Film Festival (2/29 - 3/3/2024).
Salary: $45,000 - $45,000 annual stipend

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Preference will be given to a Barnard College graduating senior or recent graduate
  • Graduating seniors from Columbia University may apply
  • Strong writing skills
  • Comfortable with public-speaking
  • Familiarity with social media

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
