What will you do?
The ATDM Welding Instructor will require a driven individual to teach in an accelerated, short-term training program. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: developing curriculum, delivering instruction and advising students. Instruction topics will include: General instruction of welding processes, safety best practices, application and hands on training. Some travel may be required. This position will support classes on third shift.  Third shift classes typically start at 11:00 p.m. Evening classes, weekend classes and/or classroom instruction at off-campus centers may be required.

We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville, VA.   


What do you offer?

  • Experience with various welding applications and materials such as SMAW, GMAW, GTAW.
  • Competency in technical math and applications in the welding industry.
  • Competency in blueprint interpretation and fabrication.
  • High school diploma or GED and significant occupational experience in welding.
  • Ability to manage a budget.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and order supplies and equipment using proper state procurement procedures.

Other Preferred Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum and course design and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a widely diverse faculty, staff and student population.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience or proficiency in the following: Certified American Welding Society Instructor (AWS) with five years of experience in teaching and industry training.
  • Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and a willingness to pursue future technological developments.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching; ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of successful work experience as a team member.
  • Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse student populations.
  • Committed to quality instruction, scholarship, and academic integrity.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering standards, material specifications, and participation in industry consortium’s
  • Knowledge in the development of G-Code and utilization of post processing methodologies
  • Competency in blueprint interpretation and GD&T

 

What IALR Offers

Why is the position open?
Because of the growth of our campus through success in our many programs, we’re adding more instructors to our team.  Due to the success of our Manufacturing Advancement team in executing the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) Program in partnership with the Department of the Navy, this is a new position that is funded by a federal contract. The position is funded through June 2025.  IALR will continue to request funding beyond 2025.
