Associate Winemaker

San Simeon of Riboli Family Wines is currently seeking an experienced Associate Winemaker for our new facility in the Willow Creek District in Paso Robles, CA.

About the Position:

Responsibilities:

  • Help to create, organize, and carry out all winemaking protocols to be used from harvest through bottling for all wines.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized production area and lab.
  • Input and maintain all inventories and wine movements for accurate record-keeping and government filing.
  • Perform chemical analysis on wine using in-house laboratory equipment.
  • Generate, manage, and interpret laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain winery equipment and ensure all maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Operate all crush and winery equipment including forklift.
  • Perform all general production tasks including but not limited to sulfur additions, topping, racking, transfers, and barrel and tank cleaning and sanitation.
  • Perform all harvest tasks including but not limited to grape sorting, grape processing, inoculations, pump overs, punch downs, and drain and press.
  • Prepare, participate, and provide feedback during blending and other wine tastings.
  • Assist in creation of tasting/production notes for wine technical sheets and marketing materials.
  • Assist with guided tours, private tastings, and special events.
  • Educate tasting room employees on winemaking practices used.
  • Represent winery at wine related functions.

Skills:

  • Willingness to and desire to learn all aspects of ultra-premium winemaking.
  • High attention to detail in all cellar and winemaking practices.
  • High level of proficiency in safely operating a forklift in tight spaces.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and to be flexible with time management.
  • Good observational skills.
  • Proficiency in use of winery management software (Vintrace, Winemaker Database), MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint.
  • Team member who builds culture of equity, sustainability, safety & quality.
  • Positively influence culture that promotes team and supports winemaking and research initiatives.

Education & Experience:

  • B.S.in Enology, Winemaking, or related field.
  • +3 years of relevant winemaking experience.
  • Valid CA driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Lift 50 pounds and climb ladders and stairs.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Extended hours are required during peak times of year, often occurring in a cold and wet environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • $75,000-$85,000 Annual Salary DOE plus potential bonuses.
