Position Announcement

Utah Valley University (UVU) invites applications for the position of Associate Vice Presidentof Commercial and Auxiliary Services. This is a unique opportunity for a dynamic leader to play a pivotal role in driving the monetization of UVU's diverse resources. This position includes strategic oversight and enhancement of revenue streams from Auxiliary Services, Continuing Education Programs, Event Hosting, and Technology Transfer initiatives. This role requires a balance of entrepreneurial spirit and alignment with UVU's educational mission and values.

Summary of Responsibilities



  • Leadership and Team Management: • Lead diverse teams, promoting innovation and operational excellence. Ensure departmental collaboration with academic and administrative units for unified university progress.
  • Continuing Education and Event Management: • Develop and monetize the Continuing Education program, with an emphasis on learning and development sectors that are in demand. • Position UVU as a prime location for hosting conferences and events, enhancing its stature and revenue potential.
  • Strategic Revenue Growth: • Lead initiatives to expand and monetize services like Printing, Dining Services, and the Campus Store. • Innovate and implement new revenue models in line with the university's resources and capabilities.
  • Innovation District and Technology Transfer: • Support the Vineyard development project with an emphasis on facilitating the successful creation of a leading innovation district, including the development of the strategy, governance, recruiting of companies and partners, and facilitation of associated fundraising activities. • Work alongside legal experts to market tech transfer opportunities. • Build industry partnerships for the commercialization of university research and innovations.
  • Museum and Cultural Asset Management: • Strategize to increase the commercial viability and public engagement of UVU’s museums. • Cultivate partnerships for financial support and increased community involvement.
  • Financial and Operational Oversight: • Manage budgets and financial strategies for all commercial activities. • Ensure financial efficiency and alignment with UVU’s financial goals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, leveraging these for new initiatives and university growth.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate diploma or Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of high-level experience in revenue generation, with experience in higher education, or other public sector setting.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, financial management, and leading large teams.
  • Deep understanding of the higher education landscape and its commercial opportunities.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in managing P&L.2

Knowledge

  • Financial Acumen: Comprehensive knowledge of financial management principles, investment strategies, and budgeting.
  • Revenue Generation: Expertise in identifying and developing new revenue streams, including knowledge of Commercial, real estate, and venture fund management.
  • Operations Optimization Development of Innovation Districts: • Proven experience in fostering innovation districts, leveraging partnerships with local businesses, government agencies, and academic institutions to create vibrant ecosystems conducive to entrepreneurship and economic growth. This includes a track record of implementing strategic initiatives to attract startups, research facilities, and talent, while also integrating community engagement and sustainable development practices to ensure long-term success and impact.
  • Marketing and Strategic Planning: Knowledge of modern marketing strategies, including digital marketing, and the ability to develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans.
  • Legal and Ethical Compliance: Familiarity with the legal aspects of technology transfer, real estate, and venture capital in an academic setting.
  • Operations Optimization:
    • In-depth understanding of operational efficiency and effectiveness principles within various organizational contexts.
    • Knowledge of best practices in streamlining processes, reducing costs, and enhancing productivity without compromising service quality or organizational values.
    • Familiarity with the latest trends and technologies in operations management that can be leveraged to improve university services, including dining, retail, event hosting, and educational programs.
    • Understanding of data-driven decision-making processes and the ability to analyze operational metrics to identify areas for improvement.
7. Retail or Food Services Management: Understanding and familiarity with either food service or retail operations.
