The Associate Underwriter is a key member of the Marine underwriting team and has the unique opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge of the insurance industry through hands on involvement in various activities. Key functions include but are not limited to:
- Preparing thorough underwriting workups that contain a detailed exposure and financial analysis, claims/legal history, and a review of significant recent corporate events for each new business and renewal account.
- Communicating with brokers during the renewal process to ascertain the client’s renewal expectations and on new business accounts to find the best opportunity for successfully winning the business.
- Participating in client meetings designed to address each account’s risk factors and mitigation approach.
- Working with senior managers to rate and price new/renewal accounts, draft quote/binder letters and issue policies.
- Maintaining the underwriting files on all in-force and lost/declined accounts.
- Developing an understanding of the insurance industry from multiple facets
- Achieving a proficiency in the technical and professional skills/knowledge of the assigned position (on the job training)
- BA/BS degree required.
- Basic insurance industry knowledge
