ASSOCIATE – SUSTAINABILITY OFFICER (JOB NUMBER: TRA001644)

Business Overview:

Sustainability is one of the three pillars of development of the Bank’s 2025 GTS plan. BNP Paribas’ goal is to accelerate its clients’ sustainability ambitions through forward-looking financing and investing solutions that deliver positive impacts for the environment and society.


BNP Paribas’ Americas Sustainability Office is responsible for leading the Bank’s regional Sustainability strategy & coordination, anticipating new trends & innovating new sustainability-related businesses, and defining the platform’s sustainability positioning & supporting partnerships. Acting as subject matter expertise center on sustainability topics, it is also in charge of supporting the implementation of the Bank’s Sustainability strategy and its related governance.

Responsibilities:

Support integration of ESG & Sustainability into business dialogue

  • Prepare strategic slides highlighting recent ESG & sustainability trends relevant to our clients’ sector, business, and financing needs (e.g., impact of extra-financial ratings, regulatory pressures, international trends, capital flows, etc.)
  • Develop sustainability-related peer benchmarking of clients by sector
  • Educate & upskill internal stakeholders on sustainability topics as required
  • Support bankers to integrate sustainability-related topics in their client dialogue

Sustainability business innovation

  • Identify projects or partners that can help the structuring of emerging new products (e.g. outcome bonds, debt-for-education swaps, nature-based solution securitization, etc.)
  • Foster innovation where appropriate, in particular by contributing to BNP Paribas globally led exploratory ESG initiatives (typically initiated by CIB Company Engagement)
  • Identify sustainability-related transaction leads from non-standard partners (e.g., universities, NGOs, …)

Develop sustainability thought-leadership

  • Fundamental research on financial valuation of sustainability through both physical risk models (adapting external models) & climate transition risk models (building own internal models)
  • Identify overlooked sustainability trends & evolutions that can significantly impact business risks & opportunities for a given client or sector
  • Quantify undervalued sustainability-related risks
  • Develop knowledge content on emerging sustainability solutions (e.g., regenerative agriculture, nature-based solutions, bio-credits, plastic credits, etc.)

Americas’ Sustainability Office coordination & support

  • Support the implementation, reporting, & governance of BNP Paribas Americas’ Sustainability Strategy, with a particular focus to commercial delivery & supporting functions (ESG regulations, risk integration, training & upskilling, communications)
  • Develop & implement monitoring plan & tools (e.g., dashboards) to support preparation of Operational & Leadership Committees dedicated to sustainability
  • Coordinate the Bank’s sustainability presence at large events leading to COP 30 (IDB Sustainability Week, Climate Week, Sustainable Future Forum, President Macron’s One Water Summit, Biodiversity COP 16, UN PRI, IMF, COP 29, COP 30, …) with numerous regional and global stakeholders

ESG Analysis & Expertise support

  • Develop knowledge to assist BNP Paribas Americas’ ESG analysts in to support application of the Bank’s ESG Risk policies & processes (including due diligence) by relevant business teams on clients & transactions
  • Develop ability to support environmental & social due diligence for project or export finance transactions
  • Support Coverage with the application of the Sustainable Finance Validation Process

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Fluent in English
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in corporate finance and ESG / sustainability
  • Enthusiasm for sustainability & finance topics
  • High level of autonomy
  • High entrepreneurial spirit & business-development attitude
  • “Can-do” attitude to independently trouble-shoot logistical challenges often faced in executing events
  • Analytical & problem solving skills
  • Rigorous & attentive to details

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Spanish and/or Portuguese would be a plus but not required
  • Advanced degree or Masters preferred in Sustainability, Business, Finance, Marketing, or other relevant field.

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $125,000 to $155,000 annually. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.
